About the Role

The VP, Quality Engineering will lead the definition and implementation of full lifecycle product development quality practices and processes for APL at InvestCloud. They are passionate about software and software quality, and constantly look for ways to improve how InvestCloud works, from product envisioning and definition to client certification and implementation. They understand that quality is built into the product, not just checked at the end, and therefore engage with product management, engineering, and operations to ensure testing is integrated throughout the development lifecycle.

What does a great VP, Quality Engineering do?

The VP, Quality Engineering defines, implements, and manages testing and test data management tools for development, quality control, regression, security, operations, and post-implementation testing. They shape and lead the test engineering teams across functional and non-functional testing, including regression. They are a software engineer at heart, coaching and mentoring the product engineering team in modern practices such as unit testing, TDD, BDD, static analysis, and more. They continuously measure and analyze software quality using metrics, providing updates and dashboards on the state of releases and production to teams, stakeholders, and clients as needed.

Quality Assurance Processes and Practices

The VP, Quality Engineering actively participates in the software quality industry, constantly seeking to improve InvestCloud's product development processes. They ensure staff are coached and trained in these practices and monitor their effectiveness regularly.

Tooling and Data Management

• Possesses good knowledge of market test tools.
• Reviews current tools used at InvestCloud, optimizing or upgrading as needed.
• Stays informed about industry developments, maintaining connections with industry peers. Current tools include WebDriver, xUnit, Specflow, Jasmine, Karma, Selenium, Load Runner, MABL, and home-grown tools for the APL platform.

Leads the Testing Teams

Leads system integration and performance testing teams, continually improving validation and regression testing processes for InvestCloud products.

Coaching and Mentoring

Expert in Acceptance and TDD, working hands-on with development teams to teach clean code and testing practices. Collaborates with Product Managers and Analysts to promote BDD practices and enhances the skills of the System Integration Test team, encouraging techniques like exploratory testing and black-box testing.

Quality Metrics, Dashboards, and Reporting

• Defines dashboards and test tracking processes for accuracy and clarity.
• Ensures effective communication about defect statuses with delivery teams.
• Provides relevant reports to leadership and clients.
• Drives quality metrics collection and analysis for each release, identifying areas for improvement and assessing the impact of actions taken.

Essential Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 20+ years in software development.
• Strong testing skills, including TDD, unit testing, functional, performance, security, and static/dynamic code analysis.
• Hands-on experience with BDD.
• Deep industry knowledge of software quality and testing approaches.
• Leadership experience influencing development and product teams.
• Experience with system design and architecture.
• Knowledge of build pipelines, CI/CD, and familiarity with Git.
• Excellent communication skills.

Additional Qualifications

• Knowledge of financial services, especially wealth management.
• Experience with DevOps practices.
• Strong understanding of Clean Code principles.
