Job Description

Description

Trinity Industries is seeking a Vice President, Portfolio Management in Dallas, TX. This role leads portfolio strategy and performance for Trinity's lease fleet, with accountability for optimizing utilization, yield, profitability, asset deployment, customer alignment, and long-term portfolio value. The VP leads a team of portfolio managers and a data analytics team, and partners closely with Commercial, Maintenance Operations, Finance, Structured Finance, IT, and Business Intelligence to translate market, fleet, financial, and customer data into disciplined portfolio strategies and decisions.

What You'll Do:
  • Set the strategic direction for the lease fleet portfolio, balancing utilization, revenue, lease economics, customer demand, maintenance requirements, asset mix, and long-term economic return.
  • Lead decisions related to renewals, remarketing, redeployment, blend-and-extend opportunities, fleet modernization, and asset exits
  • Identify underperforming assets or leases and drive action plans with Commercial and Operations to improve performance
Leadership of Portfolio Management & Analytics:
  • Lead, coach, and develop portfolio managers and the supporting data analytics team
  • Establish clear priorities, operating rhythms, decision frameworks, and performance expectations that strengthen commercial judgment, financial discipline, data literacy, and execution across the full portfolio function
Financial Performance & Executive Reporting:
  • Own portfolio-level performance insights including utilization, availability, yield, maintenance cost exposure, termination and assignment expense, capital expenditure trends, and variance to plan

Lead executive-ready reporting, annual operating plan support, quarterly forecasts, and performance reviews that identify risks, opportunities, and actions to improve results

Cross-Functional Execution:
  • Partner with Commercial on pricing, renewal planning, bid strategy, and fleet positioning
  • Work with Maintenance Operations to anticipate asset readiness, shop capacity, and maintenance cost drivers
  • Collaborate with Structured Finance, Finance, IT, and Business Intelligence to improve portfolio transactions, asset replacement strategies, data governance, dashboards, and scalable analytics
  • Ensure portfolio decisions support a premier customer experience while maintaining commercial and financial discipline
  • Use customer, market, and fleet intelligence to improve earnings, strengthen lease structures, and enhance retention — including per diem leasing, minimum guarantees, revenue sharing, and rate optimization where applicable
  • Maintain and improve portfolio data accuracy, availability, and reliability to support better business decisions and growth
  • Ensure data is current and properly maintained in industry platforms to meet regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Leverage technology and AI tools to improve visibility into fleet and customer information, increase efficiency, and identify opportunities to capture more orders and improve portfolio performance.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in portfolio management, leasing, rail, transportation, logistics, asset management, finance, or commercial operations in an asset-intensive industry
  • Experience leading teams and building capability across commercial, financial, operational, and analytical functions
  • Railcar leasing, freight rail, transportation equipment, or fleet management experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen — revenue, utilization, profitability, forecasting, variance analysis, and asset-level performance metrics
  • Ability to translate complex operational, financial, maintenance, and market data into clear strategic recommendations

Executive presence with ability to influence senior leaders and build alignment across a matrixed organization

  • Commercial judgment, customer orientation, disciplined risk assessment, and focus on long-term portfolio value
  • Comfort with enterprise analytics environments such as Power BI, Qlik, Databricks, Salesforce, ERP, or asset management systems
  • High accountability, sound decision-making, and ability to lead through ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with per diem leasing, car hire, rate audits, customer minimum guarantees, or revenue-sharing arrangements
  • Background supporting executive-level portfolio reviews, capital planning, long-range fleet strategy, or enterprise transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with TrinityRail systems, ERP, AMS, Salesforce, Databricks, or comparable enterprise data environments
