Position Summary

The Vice President, Packaging Development & Technical Services serves as the company's senior technical packaging resource, providing leadership and support across sales, customer service, design, tooling, graphics, and manufacturing.

This highly visible position is responsible for ensuring packaging solutions are properly designed, engineered, and executed from concept through production. The role acts as the critical link between customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities, helping ensure projects are efficient, manufacturable, and successful in production.

The position will provide leadership and direction to the Design Department and serve as the primary technical bridge between customers, sales, design, tooling, and manufacturing. The successful candidate will help ensure packaging solutions are not only innovative and customer-focused, but also practical, efficient, and repeatable in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support sales representatives on complex packaging opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between sales, customer service, design, tooling, quality, and manufacturing to ensure successful execution of customer requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement of packaging design, graphics, tooling, and manufacturing processes to enhance customer satisfaction, operational performance, and profitable growth.
  • Support customer service, design, and tooling departments on structural layouts, graphics, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Review structural layouts, graphics, tooling, and production specifications prior to release to manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with plant supervision and production management to ensure jobs are properly designed for manufacturability, efficiency, and runnability.
  • Oversee technical support for high-graphic packaging applications.
  • Participate in pre-production reviews for new and complex projects to identify potential manufacturing, quality, and performance concerns.
  • Conduct post-production wrap-up meetings on significant projects to review successes, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate lessons learned throughout the organization.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the design department.
  • Assist customers with packaging automation projects, including case erectors and packing line integration.
  • Support customer complaint investigations and technical problem resolution.
  • Stay current on packaging trends, graphics technologies, manufacturing methods, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
Required
  • Minimum 10 years of experience within the corrugated packaging industry.
  • Strong knowledge of corrugated manufacturing, printing, graphics, structural design, tooling, and converting operations.
  • Experience working directly with customers in a technical, operational, or packaging development capacity.
  • Ability to review packaging concepts and ensure successful manufacturing execution.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across multiple departments and organizational levels.
Preferred
  • Packaging Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience with high-graphic packaging applications.
  • Experience with displays, specialty packaging, and value-added packaging solutions.
  • Experience supporting packaging automation and case erector applications.

  • Currently employed by an independent or integrated corrugated manufacturer.
  • Background in packaging development, structural design, graphics, technical services, or manufacturing support.
  • Strong understanding of packaging layouts, tooling requirements, and manufacturing processes.

  • Technically credible with both customers and plant personnel.
