Job summary

Reason Foundation is seeking a Vice President of Research to guide the Policy division and work with leadership to drive strategic policy change. The VP will manage a team of policy analysts, publish impactful research, and collaborate with communications to reach legislators and other stakeholders.

The role requires a long track record in policy research and leadership, with travel up to 25%. It reports to the CEO and offers an option for in-office or remote work across the U.S.

Qualifications

• Ten years of policy research experience with at least five years in senior leadership.
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for Reason Foundation's Policy division.
• Set and execute a research agenda to achieve policy changes.
• Identify emerging policy issues and allocate research resources.
• Lead a team of 5–7 direct reports and 20–25 total staff/contractors.
• Ensure quality and coherence across all policy publications.
• Oversee editorial pipeline and assess research methodologies.
• Develop policy studies, briefs, and testimony.
• Collaborate with marketing/communications to reach key audiences.
• Track policy outcomes for reporting to leadership and the Board.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain top policy and data analysts.
• Assist in fundraising and ensure grant deliverables are met.
