Job description

Job Title: VP of HR

Job ID: 89053

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Overview

Build the Leadership Engine Behind a Growing Employee‑Owned Company. Our client is a rapidly growing, 100% employee‑owned (ESOP) organization headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. As they continue expanding their workforce, theyare committed to scaling with intention while preserving the culture, accountability, grit, and ownership mindset that define who they are. This is not a traditional HR leadership role. They’reseeking a trusted leader, strategic operator, and systems builder who can inspire and develop leaders across the organization, connect authentically with both English- and Spanish-speaking employees, and build the people systems necessary to support sustainable growth. The ideal candidate will partner closely with executive leadership to strengthen recruiting, leadership development, and organizational infrastructure while creating an environment where employee-owners feel valued, empowered, and connected to a shared purpose. Leadership here means building trust through action, serving others well, and creating opportunities for people to grow alongside the company they help build.

What you will be doing
Leadership Development
  • Design and implement leadership development programs for front-line leaders, supervisors, and managers.
  • Build succession planning strategies and high-potential employee development pathways.
  • Coach operational leaders on accountability, culture, engagement, and retention.
Recruiting & Organizational Growth
  • Develop scalable recruiting systems and hiring infrastructure.
  • Create workforce planning strategies that support continued growth.
  • Establish partnerships with trade schools, industry organizations, and talent pipelines.
  • Enhance onboarding programs and improve quality-of-hire outcomes.
Culture & Employee Ownership
  • Strengthen employee engagement and ownership culture throughout the organization.
  • Build recognition, retention, and accountability programs that effectively support field and office employees.
  • Drive a “Right People, Right Seats” approach to talent management and organizational effectiveness.
HR Operations
  • Lead HR systems, compliance, employee relations, and people analytics.
  • Implement scalable HR processes appropriate for a growing organization.
  • Ensure policies, practices, and programs align with business objectives and organizational values.
What you must have
  • 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience.
  • Experience within construction, skilled trades, industrial, manufacturing, logistics, transportation, or other field-based work environments.
  • Proven success building systems, processes, teams, or functions from the ground up.
  • Strong experience in leadership development and talent management.
  • Demonstrated ability to support organizational growth and scaling initiatives.
  • Executive-level communication skills and strong business partnership capabilities.
  • Ability to work onsite in the Phoenix area with regular field presence.
Non‑Negotiables
  • Experience leading and supporting field-based workforces.
  • A builder’s mindset with the ability to create systems from the ground up.
  • Strong operational partnership and business acumen.
  • Proven leadership development success.
  • High accountability, urgency, and follow‑through.
  • Alignment with an employee‑ownership culture and values.
Nice to have
  • Spanish‑speaking ability.
  • Experience in an employee‑owned (ESOP) organization.
  • Professional certifications such as SHRM‑SCP, SPHR, or equivalent.
  • Experience implementing HR technology, workforce planning initiatives, or organizational development programs.
You May Not Be a Fit If
  • You are primarily focused on compliance and policy administration.
  • You prefer maintaining existing systems rather than creating and improving them.
  • You have limited experience supporting operational or field teams.
  • You are uncomfortable in fast‑paced, high‑accountability environments.
  • You view HR primarily as an administrative function instead of a strategic business partner.
Benefits
  • Performance‑based bonus opportunities.
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) participation.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
