Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience.
  • Experience in food distribution/logistics or high-volume environments preferred.
  • Spanish language skills strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance.
  • Proven ability to build culture and drive organizational change.

  • Manage HRIS/payroll processes and ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Improve HR processes, analytics, and engagement initiatives.

Job description

The Director of Human Resources will provide strategic and hands-on leadership across talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, employee engagement, and HR operations. This is an on-site, player-coach role that combines day-to-day HR management with the development and implementation of long-term people strategies.

The ideal candidate will be a culture-focused leader and proactive problem solver who can strengthen employee engagement, develop talent, optimize HR processes, and partner with senior leadership to support organizational growth. This position offers significant opportunities for long-term career advancement.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic HR Leadership & Culture
  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and execute HR strategies aligned with organizational goals and growth initiatives.
  • Serve as a change agent by strengthening workplace culture, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Develop leadership development and succession planning programs to support internal mobility and career growth.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the overall employee experience and workplace environment.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for positions across Warehouse, Operations, IT, Sales, and other business functions.
  • Develop proactive workforce planning and recruiting strategies to anticipate staffing needs and improve retention.
  • Manage the hiring and onboarding process for 1099 workers, consultants, contractors, and offshore/onshore staff.
  • Partner with department leaders to identify talent needs and develop effective hiring strategies.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
  • Serve as the primary on-site resource for employee relations, including coaching, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
  • Develop and implement structured 30-, 60-, and 90-day onboarding programs to improve employee retention and engagement.
  • Oversee performance management, employee evaluations, and career development initiatives.
  • Conduct employee engagement surveys and develop action plans based on results.
  • Lead conflict resolution and crisis management efforts, ensuring fair, consistent, and effective outcomes.
Benefits & Leave Administration
  • Manage and continuously evaluate the company’s healthcare, dental, and vision benefits programs.
  • Oversee administration of Independence Blue Cross (IBX) medical and vision plans and United Concordia Dental benefits.
  • Lead annual open enrollment, benefits education, and employee communications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable ACA requirements and benefits regulations.
  • Administer workers’ compensation, disability, FMLA, and related leave programs.
HR Operations, Compliance & Technology
  • Manage HRIS processes through Paycom, including employee records, payroll oversight, reporting, and compliance tracking.
  • Provide oversight of payroll processing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EEOC, FMLA, and HACCP requirements.
  • Improve HR processes, workflows, reporting, and automation to increase operational efficiency.
  • Develop and monitor HR metrics and analytics related to recruiting, retention, engagement, and employee satisfaction.
Training & Development
  • Develop and implement employee training programs focused on skills development, career growth, and performance.
  • Oversee leadership and professional development initiatives.
  • Partner with department leaders to identify training needs and implement programs aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with significant experience in recruiting, benefits, employee relations, and culture development.
  • Demonstrated stability in prior employment, with 5+ years at previous employers preferred, excluding COVID-related gaps.
  • Experience in food distribution, logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, or other high-volume operational environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, employee relations, and HR best practices.
  • Conversational Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience recruiting for both hourly and salaried positions in high-volume or competitive labor markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to build culture, improve employee engagement, and lead organizational change.
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills with the ability to support both employees and managers.
  • Experience with HRIS, ATS, benefits platforms, and HR technology; Paycom experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive employee matters with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Working knowledge of international employment considerations and compliance requirements for offshore employees, consultants, and contractors.
