You will shape technical strategy, mentor leaders, and drive roadmap execution with product, design, and executive leadership.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years in leadership.
• Proven track record building and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth environment.
• Strong background in modern software architecture and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience managing managers and developing engineering leaders.
• Solid understanding of Agile development practices and delivery processes.
• Excellent communication with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and engineering roadmap in partnership with product and executive leadership
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering organization across multiple teams
• Drive engineering best practices around architecture, code quality, testing, and deployment
• Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to deliver on company priorities
• Manage engineering budgets, headcount planning, and vendor relationships
• Establish and track engineering KPIs to measure velocity, quality, and system reliability
• Lead hiring, performance management, and career development for engineering managers and staff
• Evaluate and evolve the technology stack to support long-term scalability
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Represent engineering in executive and board-level discussions

Job description

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing technology company, for a VP of Engineering to lead their product and platform engineering organization. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who can pair technical depth with the people and process skills needed to scale a fast-moving engineering team, working hybrid out of the Austin area alongside a talented group of engineers, product managers, and designers.

Day to day, this role feels like a mix of hands-on technical strategy, org design, and mentorship, moving between architecture reviews, roadmap planning with product leadership, and one-on-ones with engineering managers. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, has led teams through periods of rapid growth, and is energized by building both great software and great engineering culture.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this role is $190,000 - $235,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.

Requirements

• 8plus years of software engineering experience with 4plus years in engineering leadership
• Proven track record building and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth environment
• Strong technical background in modern software architecture and cloud infrastructure
• Experience managing managers and developing engineering leaders
• Solid understanding of agile development practices and delivery processes
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• Experience partnering closely with product and design leadership
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Demonstrated ability to balance technical debt with feature delivery under real business constraints
