Job summary

Cengage Group in the United States seeks a Vice President, Core Systems within Product Technology to lead shared technology capabilities enabling digital products to scale across markets and verticals. You will partner with leaders across Education segments to guide capabilities and modernization, balancing build, buy, and AI-enabled solutions for long-term value.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software/enterprise tech with leadership of shared services.
• 8+ years leading senior engineering teams across domains and time zones.
• Experience defining platform/shared-services strategies across complex portfolios.
• Experience running high-availability enterprise systems with reliability targets.
• Experience leading AI-enabled product platforms and data capabilities.
• Modernizing legacy monolithic systems into cloud-native architectures.
• Evidence of consolidation reducing technical debt and cost.
• Experience managing budgets, vendors, and portfolio tradeoffs.
• Strong executive communication with stakeholders.
• Leadership of leaders and talent development.

Responsibilities

• Own technology strategy, roadmap and operating model for core systems.
• Advance a build-once, scale-everywhere approach with reusable capabilities.
• Modernize Core Systems with AI, cloud-native architecture and API-first design.
• Establish shared AI infrastructure and platform services for product teams.
• Partner with product/business leaders to drive adoption while tailoring for markets.
• Drive engineering excellence, CI/CD, observability and incident management.
• Evaluate build/buy/partner options with financial transparency and ROI.
