Job summary

Starr Indemnity & Liability Company is seeking a senior leader to head the Inland Marine division in New York. You will guide strategy, oversee underwriting across all Inland Marine classes, and partner with executive leadership to deliver profitable growth and strong customer value.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree (MBA or CPCU preferred) and at least 10 years in commercial property/P&C with Inland Marine focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, CPCU, etc.) preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in commercial property, P&C lines, with strong Inland Marine focus.
• Progressive leadership experience, including managing teams of underwriters.
• Deep technical understanding of Inland Marine risks, products, underwriting, and claims.
• Demonstrated success in driving profitable growth and innovation.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Inland Marine division in developing and executing strategy for profitable growth and customer value.
• Oversee underwriting of Inland Marine products across classes.
• Set underwriting guidelines, pricing parameters, and portfolio management standards.
• Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging risks; propose solutions.
• Collaborate with EVP and senior leadership to align Inland Marine strategy with Property goals.
• Manage relationships with brokers, reinsurers and clients; represent the company externally.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to underwriting team; address staffing needs as they arise.
• Partner with Claims, Actuarial, Risk Mgmt and Product Development for portfolio management.
• Facilitate quarterly business reviews and prepare performance reports for executives.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Drive modernization and digitalization of underwriting processes.
