Job summary

SMBC Group in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Vice President-level software engineering leader to design, build, and support production applications that drive risk analytics and decision making. You will develop full-stack solutions using Python and React, deployed on Microsoft Azure, turning business needs into reliable, scalable systems.

You will mentor engineers, strengthen engineering practices, and own API design, data queries, and cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of professional software development with Python.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Back-end: Hands-on experience building applications with Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
• Data: Experience writing SQL queries and performing data analysis tasks.
• Cloud / Infrastructure: Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including App Service, Functions, Containers, and Storage.
• DevOps: Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Tools: Experience using GitHub, VS Code, and modern development environments.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document decisions and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable web applications using Python frameworks such as Django and front-end tools like React
• Design and develop APIs and backend services that support data-driven use cases
• Deploy and manage applications on Microsoft Azure, including App Service, Functions, Containers, Storage, SQL, and Databricks
• Implement monitoring, logging, and tracing using tools such as Azure Monitor and Application Insights
• Improve application performance, reliability, and security across the stack
• Lead incident response efforts and perform root cause analysis to resolve issues and prevent recurrence
• Automate build, test, and deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps
• Mentor engineers and contribute to consistent engineering practices
