Job summary

Citi in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a visionary Lead Data Engineer – AI & Distributed Analytics to architect and scale enterprise data platforms powering analytics and Generative AI.

You will lead a team of data engineers, design high‑volume pipelines with Java, Iceberg, Kafka, Flink, and Delta Lake, and partner with data scientists and product teams to deliver production‑grade solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS, data engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years in data engineering; 3+ years in technical leadership.
• Expert in Java and SQL; Python is a plus.
• Experience building large-scale data pipelines (batch/stream).
• Deep knowledge of Iceberg, Pinot, Hive/HDFS, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on with Kafka and Flink in production.
• Experience with data governance, lineage, quality, and security.
• Cloud data platforms like Databricks; lakehouse architectures.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical vision and architecture for Citi's Data Lake and Analytics platform.
• Lead and mentor data engineers; perform architecture/code reviews.
• Translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
• Provide hands-on leadership in design, development, deployment of data platforms.
• Build and maintain batch and real-time pipelines with Java stack.
• Design Feature Stores for ML training and real-time inference.
• Optimize storage and query performance on lakehouse tech.
• Implement metadata management and data lineage; ensure security/compliance.
• Evaluate new data technologies and foster innovation.
• Drive platform scalability and reliability.
