Qualifications

Overview

Responsibilities: The Controller is a leadership role with broad responsibilities. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will lead an 8-person Accounting Department. This role requires a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst to streamline budgeting and financial reporting processes. The Controller will produce comprehensive financial-status reports to enhance operational efficiency and support growth. This position is an in-office, hybrid role (minimum 4 days/week) located in Baton Rouge, LA, or Plano, TX.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and oversee the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and variance reports.
  2. Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  3. Coordinate regulatory reporting.
  4. Provide financial updates to leadership through data analysis and reporting.
  5. Develop and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
  6. Achieve budgeting goals through analysis and corrective actions.
  7. Maintain safeguards for revenue, costs, budgets, and expenditures.
  8. Lead and support the accounting team to foster trust and productivity.
  9. Manage all aspects of accounting functions, including billing, financial statements, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, and revenue recognition.
  10. Ensure organized month-end and year-end closing processes.
  11. Oversee cash management and balance sheet reconciliations.
  12. Coordinate annual corporate tax return preparation.
  13. Collaborate on audits to ensure clean results.
  14. Promote strong internal controls and accounting policies compliant with GAAP.
  15. Oversee departmental projects and resource allocation.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in a financial services company, preferably in consumer lending (auto, personal loans, credit cards).
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP; IFRS is a plus.
  • Proven leadership and talent development skills.
  • Experience with CECL implications and integration with business strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial systems like Microsoft Dynamics or Oracle.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial statement creation, and month-end/year-end closing.
  • Knowledge of banking processes and financial data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of tax regulations and compliance.
  • Proven project management in finance.
