Job description

Our client is a global provider of smart mobility infrastructure and traffic management technology, serving public transportation agencies, government clients, and private-sector customers worldwide through a blend of SaaS software, hardware/sensors, and consulting services. The company generates approximately $200M in annual revenue and, following a recent acquisition by a large international parent organization, is building the next chapter of its finance organization. We're looking for a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves VP, Controller to lead it.

About the role

Reporting to the CFO and leading a team of ~15, the VP, Controller owns all accounting, external financial reporting, and accounting operations for the business. You'll drive the monthly close, U.S. GAAP compliance, technical accounting (including ASC 606 revenue recognition across multi-element and percentage-of-completion arrangements), internal controls, and cash/credit operations — while acting as a true finance partner to Operations, Commercial, and General Manager leaders.

This is a builder's role for someone genuinely curious about how the business runs, not just how it's reported. You'll get close to operations — supply chain, manufacturing, project delivery — modernize processes, champion AI and automation across the close and reporting cycle, and help stabilize and develop a growing team during an exciting period of change under new global ownership.

What you'll do
  • Own quarterly and annual financial statements, footnote disclosures, and the external audit relationship
  • Serve as technical accounting lead for ASC 606 revenue recognition, including multi-element and percentage-of-completion arrangements
  • Drive continuous improvement of the close, reporting, and controls processes — with a focus on applying AI/automation to increase speed and accuracy
  • Optimize use of a cloud-based ERP system to strengthen controls and reporting
  • Get hands-on with the business: partner cross-functionally with Operations, Commercial, and GM leaders on pricing, contracts, and new program launches
  • Manage credit & collections, customer contract review, and account analysis (including deferred revenue, inventory, and warranty reserves)
  • Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team
What you bring
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 5+ years as a Controller at a company in the $100M–$500M revenue range
  • Strong technical accounting background, ideally including ASC 606 experience with multi-element or percentage-of-completion arrangements
  • Experience in a business with a supply chain/manufacturing component; software, SaaS, or professional services exposure is a plus
  • CPA strongly preferred; Big 4 or large public accounting background a plus
  • A proven track record of leading teams, driving process improvement, and partnering with operating leaders
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; MBA a plus
Who thrives in this role
  • A genuinely curious, hands-on operator — someone who wants to understand how the business actually works (supply chain, manufacturing, project delivery), not just close the books on it
  • An entrepreneurial "get it done" mentality: faster, better, cheaper, without waiting to be told
  • Comfortable working within a global parent-company structure, with real cross-cultural sensitivity and relationship-building instinct across regions and working styles
  • Resilient and adaptable — energized rather than rattled by a fast-changing environment, cost discipline, and organizational transition
  • A collegial, team-first partner who builds trust easily across all levels of the organization
Details
  • Location: Orange County, CA (on-site)
  • Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
  • Compensation:attractive base salary, short-term incentive target and long-term incentive target (cash-based),
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with immediate matching and no vesting period
  • Open Paid-Time-Off [PTO]

If you're an entrepreneurial, roll-up-your-sleeves controller and accounting leader who's genuinely curious about the business and thrives on building and improving in a fast-changing environment, we'd love to hear from you.
