Job summary

FAIRWINDS Credit Union, based in Orlando, seeks a VP - Commercial Credit Administration to lead the Commercial Credit team and provide independent credit perspectives on complex transactions, participations, syndications, and portfolio risk.

You will oversee daily operations, drive underwriting standards, and collaborate on credit strategy, policy, and organizational development. A senior leader with deep credit expertise and people management is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• Significant experience in commercial credit, underwriting, or credit administration, including complex commercial transactions.
• CRC or equivalent credit qualification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of commercial credit analysis, loan structuring, portfolio risk, concentration management, and credit governance.
• Experience evaluating loan participations and/or syndicated credit opportunities.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, talent development, and succession planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the Commercial Credit team, setting clear expectations for performance and growth.
• Champion underwriting standards and consistent credit decisioning across the department.
• Serve as an independent credit reviewer for complex commercial transactions, participations, and syndications.
• Evaluate opportunities on credit quality, counterparty strength, portfolio fit, concentration risk, risk-adjusted return, and alignment with risk appetite.
• Provide recommendations on credit structure, exposure management, and portfolio-related risk.
• Oversee workflows, capacity planning, and process improvements for the Commercial Credit function.
• Collaborate with the VP - Commercial Credit Officer on strategy, policy, and development.
• Balance risk management with business needs and strengthen the overall function.

This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who brings deep commercial credit expertise, strong judgment, and a passion for developing people. You’ll oversee the day-to-day effectiveness of the Commercial Credit function while serving as an independent credit voice on complex transactions, participations, syndications, and portfolio risk.

Your Role in Our Mission:

• Lead, coach, and develop the Commercial Credit team, creating clear expectations and supporting performance, career growth, and succession planning.
• Champion strong underwriting standards and consistent credit decisioning across the department.
• Serve as a key independent credit reviewer for complex commercial transactions, including participation purchases and syndication opportunities.
• Evaluate opportunities through multiple lenses, including credit quality, counterparty strength, portfolio fit, concentration risk, risk-adjusted return, and alignment with FAIRWINDS' risk appetite.
• Provide thoughtful recommendations around credit structure, exposure management, participation and syndication opportunities, and portfolio-related risk.
• Oversee Commercial Credit workflows, resource allocation, capacity planning, and process improvements to keep the team operating effectively as business needs evolve.
• Partner closely with the VP - Commercial Credit Officer on credit strategy, policy administration, organizational development, and continuous improvement.
• Help strengthen the overall effectiveness of the Commercial Credit function by balancing sound risk management with the needs of the business.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.

• Significant experience in commercial credit, underwriting, or credit administration, including experience with complex commercial transactions.
• Completion of a formal commercial credit training program or equivalent credit qualification is preferred.
• Risk Management Association Credit Risk Certification (CRC) is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of commercial credit analysis, loan structuring, portfolio risk, concentration management, and credit governance.
• Experience evaluating loan participations and/or syndicated credit opportunities.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, talent development, and succession planning.
• Strong independent judgment and the confidence to appropriately challenge credit assumptions and recommendations.
• The ability to balance credit quality and risk management with broader business objectives.
• A collaborative leadership style and the ability to build strong partnerships across Commercial Lending and other areas of the organization.
• A continuous-improvement mindset with experience improving workflows, processes, or team effectiveness.

Minimum 10 years of progressive commercial credit experience, including commercial underwriting, credit risk assessment, participation and syndication review, and portfolio risk management. Minimum 5 years of direct people-management experience with responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, talent development, succession planning, and accountability of professional staff. Demonstrated ability to assess complex credits, participations, syndications, and portfolio risk.
