Our client is an emerging powered land and digital infrastructure development firm focused on supporting the next generation of AI, cloud, colo, edge, and hyperscale infrastructure across North America. They combine strategic land development with power and utility infrastructure expertise to deliver scalable, development-ready sites for hyperscale, data center, and other large-load infrastructure customers across North America.
They are seeking a VP, Civil Engineering to support the development of large-scale digital infrastructure and powered land projects across their portfolio. This role will focus on civil site development, utility coordination, permitting, and infrastructure execution for mission-critical developments including data centers, energy infrastructure, and large-load industrial sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead civil engineering and site development efforts for hyperscale and large-load digital infrastructure projects across North America.
- Drive site planning activities, including test fits, conceptual campus layouts, phased development strategies, roadway planning, utility corridors, grading, and infrastructure optimization for hyperscale data center environments.
- Evaluate and support site feasibility efforts with a strong focus on power availability, utility integration, infrastructure scalability, constructability, permitting, and speed-to-market considerations.
- Coordinate and oversee civil engineering design activities including grading and drainage, stormwater management, underground utilities, roadway access, earthwork, utility routing, and site infrastructure planning.
- Support infrastructure planning associated with behind-the-meter and alternative energy strategies, including coordination with advanced energy and power stakeholders.
- Review and provide technical oversight of civil engineering deliverables, construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and development packages.
- Coordinate due diligence activities including zoning evaluations, environmental assessments, utility studies, geotechnical investigations, and infrastructure constraint analysis.
- Coordinate with utilities, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to support entitlement, permitting, and infrastructure execution activities.
- Contribute to the development of scalable infrastructure standards, site planning strategies, and development best practices across the company's growing portfolio.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders in a highly team-oriented and entrepreneurial environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, mission-critical, or hyperscale data center developments.
- Direct hyperscale data center experience is required, including experience with campus planning, test fits, site layouts, and large-scale infrastructure coordination.
- Strong experience with land and site development including grading, drainage, stormwater, roadway design, utilities, earthwork, and permitting processes.
- Experience managing external engineering consultants and coordinating multidisciplinary infrastructure projects involving utilities, developers, EPC firms, and engineering consultants.
- Familiarity with large-load infrastructure planning, utility coordination, power-constrained development environments, and accelerated development timelines.
- Strong understanding of entitlement processes, permitting coordination, infrastructure feasibility analysis, and site due diligence activities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, highly collaborative, and entrepreneurial development environments.
