Job description

WHO WE ARE:
Relm is a specialty insurer built for businesses shaping the future.
We work with companies operating across digital assets and Web3, AI, space, fintech, biotech and other emerging industries where traditional insurance markets can struggle to keep pace.
With teams across London, New York, Dubai, Miami and Bermuda, we combine specialist underwriting expertise with curiosity, creativity and a willingness to understand risks others may not.

We’re looking for an experienced Vice President, Casualty Underwriter to take a leading role in the continued growth and development of Relm’s Casualty portfolio.

This is a senior underwriting role with real ownership. You’ll help shape portfolio strategy, drive broker relationships, influence product development and lead the underwriting of some of our most complex and strategically important Casualty risks.

You’ll remain close to the market and hands-on with underwriting, while also playing a key role in developing the wider team and helping define how Relm approaches Casualty across both established and emerging industries.

Our clients operate in sectors that are evolving quickly, meaning exposures can be complex, unusual and difficult to fit within traditional underwriting models. You’ll need strong Casualty fundamentals, commercial judgement and the curiosity to understand businesses and liability exposures that may still be developing.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Lead the strategy, planning and performance of the Casualty portfolio.

Underwrite, price and negotiate complex Casualty risks in line with Relm’s appetite and profitability objectives.

Build and deepen relationships with wholesale and retail brokers, identifying new opportunities and distribution channels.

Drive profitable growth, retention and portfolio diversification across Casualty.

Lead, mentor and develop underwriting and support staff, helping build a high-performing team.

Work closely with senior leadership on underwriting strategy, distribution, reinsurance and product innovation.

Negotiate and develop policy wordings, endorsements and bespoke coverage structures.

Use portfolio data, loss trends and market intelligence to inform underwriting decisions and identify emerging exposures.

Develop subject matter expertise across emerging sectors relevant to Relm’s Casualty portfolio.

Collaborate across Underwriting, Product, Claims and other teams to identify cross-sell opportunities and deliver broader client solutions.

Maintain strong underwriting discipline and ensure adherence to internal frameworks, pricing tools, regulatory requirements and file standards.

Represent Relm externally with brokers, clients and at industry events and conferences.

Help improve underwriting processes and ways of working, with a focus on data, technology and efficiency.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience within Casualty underwriting and/or broking.

Experience underwriting international or multi-jurisdictional Casualty portfolios.

Strong technical experience across complex Casualty and liability risks.

Established relationships with wholesale and/or retail brokers.

Experience owning or influencing the strategy and performance of a Casualty portfolio.

Proven leadership experience, including mentoring and developing underwriting talent.

Strong experience negotiating and drafting policy and endorsement wording.

Excellent commercial judgement and confidence making decisions on complex or unusual liability risks.

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data and loss information to evaluate portfolio performance.

Confidence engaging with senior brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.

A recognised insurance qualification such as CPCU, ACII, AU or equivalent.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in insurance, finance, business or a related discipline.

The ability to travel internationally where required.

NICE TO HAVE:

Experience working with innovative or emerging industries.

Experience underwriting sectors with evolving or hard-to-quantify liability exposures.

An interest in sectors such as digital assets, Web3, AI, fintech, biotech, cannabis, autonomous technology or other emerging industries.

Experience using Power BI, Excel or similar tools to analyse portfolio performance and inform underwriting strategy.

WHAT WE OFFER:

The annual salary for this role is structured within a range of USD $200,000 to USD $225,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Paid Public Holidays: Enjoy ten (10) paid public holidays each year, giving you the opportunity to unwind and recharge.
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO): You’ll receive 28 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) annually, giving you the flexibility to take care of personal matters, vacation, or sick days.
  • Full Health Coverage: The company fully covers your medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance to ensure you and your family are well taken care of.
  • 401K Program with Company Match: Plan for your future with access to the company’s 401K program, including a 5% company match .
  • Professional Development & Mentorship : We invest in your growth through professional development opportunities, training, and mentorship programs, helping you advance in your career.
  • Wellness Stipend: Take care of yourself with a monthly wellness stipend to support your health and well-being.
  • Commuting & Travel Reimbursement: We offer a commuting reimbursement to help with transportation costs, including parking, making your daily commute easier.
  • Wellness Benefits: Stay healthy and active with access to gym memberships, exercise classes, and other wellness perks that promote a balanced lifestyle.
  • Your Voice Matters: Work in an environment where your opinions and ideas are valued and play a crucial role in driving the success of our team.
  • Endless Growth Opportunities: Enjoy a multitude of career growth opportunities, ensuring that you have the resources to thrive and advance within the company.

At Relm , you won’t just join a company - you’ll be part of a team that’s shaping the future. If you’re ready to make an impact, we’d love to hear from you.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE WORKING WITH US:
Relm is a team of innovators redefining what’s possible in insurance.
You’ll work in an environment that encourages curiosity, ownership and new ideas, with the opportunity to help shape products, markets and ways of working rather than simply inherit them.
We invest in our people and give them the support, tools and development they need to do their best work and continue growing with the business.
