Job description

VP, Business Development

Alder Newton, Massachusetts, United States

About this position

For over 30 years, Alder has been a trusted guide for more than 5,000 families across Greater Boston, helping them navigate the aging journey with compassion, clarity, and expert care. Our life care managers are seasoned social workers and nurses, providing both strategic direction and hands‑on support, from coordinating medical care and assessing home safety to attending appointments and facilitating meaningful family conversations.

Deeply rooted in the community, we leverage a broad professional network to connect families with trusted resources and foster collaboration across disciplines. Whether offering occasional consultations or urgent crisis support, we tailor our involvement to meet each individual’s unique needs. At the heart of our work is a simple goal: to help families approach the practical and emotional aspects of aging with confidence.

The Role

Alder has spent more than 30 years building one of the most trusted aging life care practices in New England and New York. We now have a clear path to extend that model into new markets, and we're hiring the leader who will drive that growth. This is a revenue-accountable role. VP of Business Development owns the strategy and execution for growing high-quality referral volume across our professional partner network (financial advisors, elder law and estate planning attorneys, fiduciaries, physicians, hospital discharge planners, and other key referral sources). You will lead existing Business Development teams in New England and New York, build the infrastructure to scale into new markets, and be the primary architect of how Alder grows. This is a senior leadership role. You will shape how Alder grows, leading business development across all of our markets, owning the strategy, and driving the referral volume that brings more families the support they need.

Growth and referral development

Set and execute the regional strategy for expanding Alder's professional referral network. Identify the highest‑value partner segments, build the outreach and relationship systems to reach them at scale, and ensure the team converts those relationships into consistent referral flow.

Team leadership

Manage and develop BD teams across New England and New York. Set clear expectations, establish operating rhythms, and build the kind of team culture where strong performers stay and grow. Drive hiring decisions as we expand, ensuring every new market launches with the right people in place.

Training and development

Own the onboarding and development of Alder's BD team — building the training infrastructure, market knowledge, and skills that allow reps to hit the ground running and perform at a high level across all territories. You will also play a supporting role in Care Manager onboarding as Alder enters new markets, ensuring clinical hires have enough context on the referral landscape to support BD efforts from the start.

Operational infrastructure

Own the systems that make the team effective, including CRM configuration and hygiene, pipeline visibility, intake handoffs, SLAs, and reporting. Build infrastructure that scales, not infrastructure that requires you to be in the room for it to work.

Coaching and field execution

Be present in the work. Shadow partner meetings, review active opportunities, and give direct feedback. The best thing you can do for this team is raise their floor through close observation and honest coaching.

Messaging and market positioning

Ensure the team is equipped with materials and language that resonate with sophisticated professional partners. Alder's value proposition is distinctive. This role is responsible for making sure it's communicated clearly and consistently.

Required skills / experiences
  • You have 7+ years in business development or sales leadership, ideally in professional services, healthcare, or another relationship-intensive environment where trust is the product.
  • You've managed multi-state teams and led or supported geographic expansion.
  • You're comfortable being accountable for a number, not just a set of activities.
  • You translate strategy into operational systems without losing the thread of execution.
  • You're a strong external presence — credible with financial advisors, attorneys, and healthcare professionals — and you know how to build a team that mirrors that.
Why Work at Alder?

At Alder, we value our team as our greatest asset. We offer a supportive, mission‑driven work environment where your contributions make a meaningful impact every day.
