Job summary

Simons Foundation in New York City seeks a Vice President and Senior Scientific Officer to lead SFARI grants, manage a portfolio of autism and neurodevelopmental research funding, and guide strategic scientific priorities. The role oversees a team of Scientific/Senior Scientific Officers and coordinates with the EVP and peer VP/SSO.

The position is full-time, based in NYC, with travel to conferences and collaboration with a broad scientific community.

Qualifications

  • PhD and/or MD in a neuroscience-related field, ideally relevant to autism and neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • 10+ years of post-training experience, including 5+ years of strong operational management leading teams.
  • Broad knowledge of neuroscience including genomics, molecular/cell biology, circuits, and human subjects research.
  • Foundation in computational approaches to neuroscience or related quantitative discipline.
  • Ability to integrate theoretical/computational methods with experimental neuroscience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead SFARI grants process, including RFA development and evaluation of funded grants.
  • Lead process improvement across the full grant-making cycle.
  • Manage a portfolio of funded grants and collaborate with investigators and grants team.
  • Contribute to SFARI’s strategic planning and priorities with EVP and a second VP/SSO.
  • Organize workshops to refine priorities and develop new scientific initiatives.
  • Promote inclusive excellence, data sharing, and partnerships with other organizations.
  • Provide leadership support for Autism BrainNet and coordinate council activities.
  • Collaborate with external funders to ensure synergy and avoid duplication.
  • Stay current with autism research and attend relevant seminars/workshops.
