Elections Division

The Elections Division supports the Secretary of State, as the state’s chief election official, by administering and supervising statutory and constitutional provisions that relate directly or indirectly to the conduct of Colorado elections. These include certifying content to the ballot, publishing the abstract of vote totals, as well as overseeing the verification of petitions for ballot issues, campaign finance filings and enforcement, lobbyist filings and enforcement, voting equipment certifications, requirements of the National Voter Registration Act and the Help America Vote Act, and maintaining the statewide voter registration system.

Voting Systems Unit

The Purpose Of The Voting Systems Unit Is To

  • determine whether voting systems should be certified.
  • assist counties with support of existing equipment.
  • ensure that systems are audited, used securely and appropriately in accordance with law.
  • support the use of other technical driven functions such as Ballot on Demand (BOD) printers, Election Night Reporting (ENR) and Risk Limiting Audits (RLA).
Illustration of key duties
  • Coordinate, assist, and execute the Colorado Secretary of State Voting Systems Program. The Voting Systems Program is in place to ensure voting systems meet state requirements for certification, statutes, and the Secretary of State rules/standards.
  • Contribute to the certification of new equipment.
  • Install the Trusted Build software on all county voting equipment.
  • Provide ENR/RLA support.
  • Be an initial point of contact for counties in a variety of areas, including deadline submissions and general questions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all voters confidential and personal identifying information, personnel information, and any other confidential or proprietary information, as well as comply with all State and Department policies regarding professional conduct and professional practices.
  • Maintain a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a total of five (5) years of relevant professional experience and/or education in a field of study related to the work. To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate that you meet one of the following options outlined below:

OPTION 1 - Experience

Five (5) years of professional experience including all of the following: installing software on computers and providing customer service that included troubleshooting and testing technical equipment.

OPTION 2 – Experience and/or Education – Be sure you’ve attached a copy of your unofficial transcript to qualify for this option. (Y ou may redact information that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.)

A combination of related education and/or relevant professional experience as defined in Option 1 to equal five (5) years. Related education includes successful course credits from an accredited institution of higher learning in public administration, political science, election administration, information systems, information technology, engineering, or in a field of study related to the work environment.

Transcripts from colleges or universities outside the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service.
