THIS POSITION IS UNPAID AND IS INTENDED FOR WRITERS LOOKING TO GROW THEIR PORTFOLIO AND SKILLS.

Since January 2025, Behind the Coaching has created content dedicated to honoring and highlighting the impact, achievements, philosophies, and teaching methods the coaches, teachers, and mentors have made in all sports. Whether it’s a personal achievement or the impact they made on a team and/or player.

We’re always looking for individuals who are passionate about sports, writing, and/or being part of a creative team. If you’re someone looking to get their foot in the sports or journalism industry, this could be your chance to grow your resume, portfolio, and experience in both of those industries.

Key Writing Opportunities & Positions

We’re always looking for writers to cover any sport of their choosing. As we establish ourselves in more sports, we’re understaffed in these newer areas. Currently, we’re looking for the following writers interested in covering coaches, teachers, and mentors in:

• Basketball
• Soccer (American)
• Golf

Please feel free to apply for any sport or if you even have a sport to cover that we don’t yet!

Responsibilities

• Research, Pitch, and Write articles about the coaches, teachers, and mentors in either various sports or specifically the one(s) you prefer and are most knowledgeable in.
• Collaborate with the Managing Editor to review feedback and deliver the most accurate and sufficient content.

Who We’re Looking For

• Individuals who are passionate about pursuing their journalism career with a love for sports.
• Writers who are looking to grow their skills and build their portfolios to later pursue the opportunities they desire.
• Those who are knowledgeable about sports, or specifically one sport that they truly are familiar with such as the concept, rules, and history of the sport.

Preferred Skills

• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• General Knowledge of any Major Sports (Basketball, Baseball, Football, Hockey, Soccer, etc).
• Knowledge and/or previous experience implementing SEO practices and strategies.
• Willingness to accept feedback based on quality of work.

• Own 100% of your Work: Anything you write, say, or do while on Behind the Coaching platforms is completely yours to own, display, and showcase WITHOUT any type of permission needed from us. You created it, we want you to have it.
• Opportunities tointerview sports coaches and/or players of various levels of competitionfor content. We will “scout” candidates who are interested in being featured in our articles and connect them with our writer(s) who are the most interested in that particular sport.
• Letter of recommendation/reference for future opportunities: Along with your expanded portfolio, We would love to write a recommendation letter describing your work ethic, notable achievements, and why future employers should consider you.
