Volunteer Services Manager (Project Management)

Position Description

Salary Grade: 8

Primary Function: The Volunteer Services Manager is responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating all volunteers. They ensure volunteers receive appropriate training to remain competent and compliant with agency policies and procedures. This role manages all volunteer programs, assesses existing services, and creates new programs to improve volunteer integration and utilization in the agency's operations and services.

Training: Orientation to Hospice, Home Health, Inpatient and Palliative Care services, and other necessary training.

Supervision: Director of Clinical Services

Positions Supervised: All Volunteers, primarily patient/family volunteers

Qualifications:

  1. Associate degree in business or bachelor's degree in social work, human resources, psychology, sociology, or related field.
  2. Ability to manage, motivate, develop, and direct volunteer staff.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Ability to develop positive relationships with the interdisciplinary team.
  5. Experience in recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers, with knowledge of hospice volunteer roles.
  6. Understanding of terminal and/or serious illness and hospice concepts.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with electronic medical records preferred.
  8. Experience in organizing events, public speaking, and interacting with diverse individuals.
  9. Reliable attendance, valid North Carolina driver's license, and willingness to travel.

Areas of Responsibility/Accountability:

Volunteer Services
  • Develops programs to recruit, train, retain, and recognize volunteers across categories.
  • Schedules and conducts volunteer training and orientation.
  • Coordinates volunteer placements, ensuring role-specific training and ongoing education.
  • Performs annual evaluations and supervisory visits, supporting volunteers and acknowledging efforts.
  • Supports community outreach and hospice awareness activities in collaboration with the Marketing Department.
Patient/Family Care Clinical Team Collaboration
  • Ensures continuity of care through effective communication with team members and volunteers.
  • Manages volunteer assignments to meet patient/family needs and collaborates in care planning.
  • Attends clinical and leadership meetings, and reports on volunteer activities.
Documentation, Communication, and Records
  • Maintains accurate, compliant records of volunteer activities and documentation.
  • Ensures confidentiality and proper documentation for reimbursement and quality improvement.
Personal and Professional Growth
  • Participates in educational activities, staff meetings, and professional development.
  • Provides feedback and reports on volunteer program status.
  • Engages in ethical discussions and policy reviews.
Physical Demands and Work Schedule

Regular standing, walking, sitting, and data entry required. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Flexible hours, primarily 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with telework options upon approval.
