Salary: $45,000+, depending on experience
The Volunteer Recruitment and Marketing Coordinator develops and implements strategies to attract, engage, and convert prospective volunteers into mentors. Supervised by the Program Director, this position combines relationship-based community recruitment with digital marketing, communications, events, and data-informed outreach.
The Coordinator will build awareness of Big Brothers Big Sisters, strengthen the organization’s presence in priority communities, and create a welcoming pathway from initial interest through application and enrollment. The position works closely with program staff and collaborates with development staff, community partners, volunteers, and alumni.
- Develop and implement an annual volunteer recruitment plan aligned with program enrollment and matching goals.
- Build a diverse pipeline of prospective mentors that reflects the youth, families, and communities the organization serves.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with employers, civic groups, schools, colleges, faith communities, public-safety organizations, athletic programs, and other community partners.
- Coordinate and serve as lead presenter for recruitment activities, including information sessions, workplace presentations, community events, coffee socials, festivals, and speaking engagements.
- Equip staff, board members, alumni, current volunteers, and other ambassadors with messages and materials they can use to support recruitment.
- Participate in the Program Committee and help develop a Bigs Recruitment Committee.
- Track, monitor, and communicate metrics for volunteer recruitment.
Marketing and Communications
- Develop recruitment campaigns across email, social media, digital advertising, print materials, community calendars, and partner communications.
- Create and distribute flyers, presentations, recruitment toolkits, social media content, email messages, and other promotional materials.
- Maintain a consistent and compelling organizational voice while following Big Brothers Big Sisters brand standards.
- Gather, write, and share impact stories that demonstrate the value of mentoring and inspire community involvement.
- Maintain accurate, current recruitment information on the organization’s website and digital platforms.
- Coordinate content calendars and campaign schedules with program, development, and organizational activities.
- Support media outreach, community announcements, and promotional opportunities related to volunteer recruitment.
- Monitor campaign performance and adjust messages, audiences, and outreach channels based on results.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Collaborate with enrollment and match-support staff to align recruitment activity with current program capacity and youth needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, training, and organization-wide activities.
- Support selected evening and weekend events as needed.
- Manage assigned projects and expenses within approved plans and budgets.
- Perform other related duties that advance the organization’s mission.
Experience Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, community engagement, nonprofit management, or a related field; equivalent professional or lived experience will be considered.
- Experience in volunteer recruitment, marketing, communications, community outreach, sales, enrollment, or a related area.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with digital advertising, graphic design platforms, website content, or customer relationship management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with people from varied backgrounds and sectors.
- Ability to manage multiple campaigns, events, relationships, and deadlines with limited supervision.
- Comfort using social media, email marketing, online forms, databases, and common office technology.
- Ability to interpret basic recruitment and marketing data and use it to improve results.
- Commitment to youth mentoring, equity, inclusion, and the mission and values of Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Required to travel/ work remote approximately 40% of time. May include some travel to attend conferences and meetings, etc. Travel is generally within Dane County.
- Must be able and willing to work evenings and weekends as required by the agency.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
