This position serves as the primary coordinator for NVHS’s volunteer program, leading volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training coordination, scheduling, communication, and retention. The Coordinator works closely with staff to match volunteers with meaningful opportunities supporting our programs, outreach activities, events, donation operations, and administrative needs.

The position also plays an important role in managing in-kind donations and inventory, helping ensure donated goods and program supplies are received, organized, tracked, and available when needed. Additional responsibilities include supporting community events, corporate volunteer projects, donation drives, warehouse operations, and other program activities.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with people while also keeping the details organized behind the scenes.

What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate the NVHS volunteer program, including advertising opportunities, responding to inquiries, screening applicants, onboarding, orientation, and placement.
  • Match volunteers with opportunities based on their skills, interests, availability, and NVHS needs.
  • Schedule and communicate with volunteers supporting outreach, events, warehouse activities, office projects, and other initiatives.
  • Maintain volunteer records and track hours, participation, and engagement.
  • Build relationships with corporations, civic organizations, schools, faith-based organizations, and other community groups interested in volunteering.
  • Manage the receipt, processing, sorting, inventory, and organization of in-kind donations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and help identify shortages and surpluses of commonly needed items.
  • Keep warehouse, storage, and donation areas organized and functional.
  • Prepare and distribute clothing, hygiene products, food, household goods, and other donated supplies for program use.
  • Coordinate donation pickups and deliveries as assigned.
  • Support volunteer staffing and logistics for fundraising events, community events, outreach activities, donation drives, and special projects.
  • Assist with corporate volunteer projects and community service activities.
  • Represent NVHS at volunteer fairs and community events as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to volunteers, donations, and inventory.
  • Work collaboratively with NVHS staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and veteran-serving organizations.
What We’re Looking For
  • At least two years of experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit operations, inventory management, community engagement, or a related area.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow projects through to completion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfort working in both office and hands-on operational environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and databases, CRM platforms, or similar systems.
  • Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, human services, or a related field.
  • Experience with inventory, warehouse operations, donated goods, or program supplies.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, veteran services, social services, or community-based organization.
  • Experience with Bloomerang, Microsoft 365, volunteer management systems, or similar platforms.
  • Strong community engagement and relationship-building skills.
