Job Description
Position Summary:
The Volunteer Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all elements of the End of Life/Patient Companion program including the recruitment, training, supervising, and scheduling of volunteers. In addition, assist in the development and implementation of a bereavement support group for volunteers.
The Volunteer Program Coordinator will facilitate patient companion volunteer services for patients/families in cooperation with an Advisory team which includes Palliative Care, Hospice, Chaplaincy, and Social Work who will provide collaborative support to the Volunteer Coordinator in compliance with organization policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities
- The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, retention and basic development and implementation of programs and services related to End of Life/Patient Companion volunteers.
- Conduct and arrange volunteer training for program.
- Design and deliver End of Life/Patient Companion program to meet patient, family and staff needs.
- Supervise volunteers, ensuring quality patient visits, and assisting when challenges arise.
- Assign volunteers based on program needs and the volunteers’ interests and skills.
- Evaluate all aspects of End of Life/Patient Companion program to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation.
- Work with interdisciplinary team to facilitate one on one support for volunteers.
- Execute a supportive and sensitive approach to patient/family need.
- Work together with other Volunteer Services staff in the outreach and tracking of volunteers within the program.
- Collaborate and support staff with bereavement support group for volunteers.
Qualifications
- College degree in human services preferred or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a health care or related setting. Hospice and/or volunteer experience preferred.
- Experience in adult education, teaching, and leading workshops
- Knowledge and experience with how to work compassionately and intelligently with the dying.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer programs including word processing, scheduling and database programs.
- Ability to supervises, coordinates, and evaluates volunteers in the program.
- Demonstrates strong communication, organizational and analytical skills that reflect ability to multitask and coordinate and maintain an active volunteer program.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
