We assist individuals and families in the areas of advocating for social justice, boosting civic engagement, educational opportunities, healthcare access for all, and senior support services.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Volunteer Press Director to lead our press initiatives and manage a team of writers focused on producing content aligned with our organization’s mission. The Volunteer Press Director will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality articles, press releases, and other media content that promotes our work and community impact. The Volunteer Press Director will work closely with the Communications & Marketing Director to ensure cohesion between articles and newsletters, while also collaborating with other department directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the creation, editing, and publication of articles, press releases, and media content that reflect the organization’s mission and values.
  • Lead and mentor the press team, providing guidance on content development, tone, and journalistic standards to ensure all materials are impactful and mission focused.
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications & Marketing Director to produce newsletters and other communications that effectively engage our audience and promote our initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all press and media content, aligning with the organization's overall communication strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets to increase the organization’s visibility.
  • Track and analyze the performance of press releases and articles, making data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure timely publication of articles and other media materials, meeting all deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, with a strong background in writing, editing, and managing media relations.
  • 2+ years of experience working within the nonprofit sector. (Preferred)
  • Proven experience managing a small team, with the ability to mentor and develop talent.
  • Expertise in developing content that supports the mission and objectives of nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working closely with marketing and communications teams to align content strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a deep understanding of journalistic standards and practices.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and ensure high-quality content delivery.

Skills:

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. (Required)
  • High proficiency in content creation, writing, and editing. (Required)
  • Extensive experience in journalism and media relations.
  • Ability to lead a team and collaborate across departments.
  • Expertise in producing mission-driven content that engages and inspires.
