Job summary

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands seeks a Volunteer Lawyer Program (VLP) Project Coordinator to oversee monthly clinics and manage intake for potential clients in Tennessee. You will supervise volunteers, coordinate staff with partner law firms, and build relationships with community organizations serving the client base.

The role requires strong communication and project-management skills, experience serving low-income clients, and Spanish language ability preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a law office, court, or social service setting.
  • Experience working with low-income people.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication, including interviews and crisis support.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee 4-6 legal advice clinics per month, including 1 Saturday morning per month.
  • Manage the daily intake process for potential clients of the VLP, supervising volunteers.
  • Communicate with law firms and local attorneys to staff clinics with volunteers.
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with organizations in the service area.
  • Maintain files in an orderly and policy-compliant fashion.
  • Attend weekly case reviews to discuss potential client cases.
  • Enter clinic data and refer clients to appropriate resources after clinics.
  • Assist with creating outreach materials and plan community outreach events.

Job Title: Volunteer Lawyer Program (VLP) Project Coordinator

Starting Salary Range:$49,250 - $55,750 per year

Our staff includes national authorities in the fields of domestic violence, housing, consumer law, federal income taxation, health advocacy, non-profit group representation, social security, and special education.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Coordinate and oversee 4-6 legal advice clinics per month, including 1 Saturday morning per month.
  • Manage the daily intake process for potential clients of the Volunteer Lawyers Program, including by supervising any volunteers or other administrative personnel who are assisting with those intakes.
  • Communicate with law firms, local attorneys, and other legal professionals to staff Legal Aid clinics with volunteers.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with organizations in the service area and state which would benefit the client population.
  • Maintain files in an orderly and accurate fashion, adhering to company policies and guidelines.
  • Attend weekly case reviews to discuss and review cases for potential clients.
  • Following clinics, enter data on clinic files and refer clients to appropriate resources.
  • Assist with creating outreach materials for potential clients and volunteers, including legal information brochures, educational materials for firms, and clinic flyers. Attend meetings in the community and plan outreach events to educate the client population about Legal Aid’s services.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Associate’s degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2 years prior experience working in a law office, court, social service agency, or other relevant setting. Project management experience.
  • Experience working with low-income people.
  • Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including in client interviews and helping people in crisis. Proficiency in the use of office equipment (copiers, scanners, facsimile, postage machine, etc.).
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is preferred.
