Job summary

Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer management and/or charitable event oversight experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with own transportation.
  • Experience with event planning and volunteer engagement is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, venue and vendor recruitment, event volunteer management, and event set-up and breakdown.
  • Coordinate and support three primary events: Walk for the Animals, Art for Arf’s Sake Auction, and Pints for Pups.
  • Engage volunteers across departments and travel between HPA locations as needed.

Job description

THE PERSON

The ideal applicant must be a people person, self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, an ability to manage multiple projects at once, be well organized, and timeline focused. Previous volunteer management and/or charitable event oversight experience is experience is preferred. Retail management, design experience, and/or knowledge of core charitable and non-profit standards is a plus.

Because people are at the core of Humane PA’s service delivery and drive its special events, effective volunteer engagement, management, and recruitment are key to this position’s success. HPA welcomes several hundred volunteers in a wide variety of roles annually. These include animal care, service & program, administrative, special event, thrift shop, veterinary services, and more. This position directly engages with volunteers, and supports HPA managers in their direct management of volunteers within their departments. HPA utilizes the Better Impact volunteer app, WordPress platforms, and a variety of social media platforms. Developing fluency in all utilized programs and apps is required.

HPA hosts three primary special events: Walk for the Animals, Art for Arf’s Sake Auction, and Pints for Pups, as well as hosting and participating in other smaller events. This position is responsible for planning, venue and vendor recruitment, event volunteer management, and event set-up and breakdown, under the management and direction of senior HPA staff and in partnership with key volunteers.

BENEFITS/REQUIREMENTS

Starting salary range is $36,000 to $40,000, based on experience. Competitive benefits including generous vacation and sick time, medical, dental, and vision insurance and continuing education opportunities. This on-site position is based out of Reading, PA, but requires routine travel between HPA locations and event venues in the region.

Flexibility scheduling is required, with nights and weekends required as needed. Valid drivers license with own transportation, ability to navigate uneven surfaces and outdoor venues, light lifting, comfort with animals of all types, ability to visually and auditorily assess and direct sound, design, and production elements associated with HPA special events are essential elements of this position.
