Purpose of Position

Goddard Riverside is seeking a dynamic, relationship-oriented Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to lead and grow the organization's volunteer and in-kind giving programs. This newly created position will serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, community groups, corporate partners, schools, and individual donors, creating meaningful opportunities for community members to engage with and support our mission. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will oversee the full volunteer lifecycle—from recruitment and placement to stewardship and recognition—while partnering with staff across the organization to develop impactful volunteer experiences. The position will also manage the agency's in-kind giving program, coordinating donation drives and ensuring that donated goods are distributed efficiently to meet program needs.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, some weekend and holiday events, 9:00am to 5:00pm, flexibility for some morning and evening events. Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000. Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate's number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties
  • Volunteer Engagement Lead the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of Goddard Riverside's volunteer program.
  • Serve as the primary ambassador for volunteers, providing outstanding customer service and fostering meaningful, mission-driven engagement.
  • Partner with program staff to identify volunteer needs and develop opportunities that support agency priorities.
  • Support and coordinate the Holiday Meals Volunteer Committee to manage those flagship opportunities and other signature volunteer initiatives.
  • Represent Goddard Riverside at volunteer events, orientations, and community engagement activities.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Manage volunteer communications, responding promptly and professionally to inquiries, requests, concerns, and feedback.
  • Maintain volunteer records, registration systems, website content, and database information.
  • Track volunteer participation, hours, and program outcomes, and prepare reports to inform organizational planning or document participation for volunteers.
  • Cultivate relationships with schools, corporations, faith communities, and civic organizations to expand volunteer participation.
  • Evaluate volunteer experiences through regular feedback and implement improvements to strengthen engagement and retention.
  • In-kind Giving Coordinate the organization's in-kind donation program, serving as the primary contact for individuals, businesses, and community groups interested in donating goods.
  • Plan and manage seasonal and year-round in-kind donation drives, including toys, coats, school supplies, and other priority needs.
  • Maintain and manage the in-kind section of the database and website, program wish lists, and alternative options for items we do not take.
  • Partner with program staff to maintain current wish lists and identify emerging needs.
  • Manage communications related to in-kind donations, ensuring a positive and responsive donor experience.
  • Maintain accurate records within the donor database and online donation platforms.
  • Coordinate the collection, transportation, and distribution of donated goods to program sites.
  • Track and report on in-kind donation activity and impact.
  • Collaboration Work closely with colleagues across Development, Programs, Communications, and Operations to ensure volunteer and in-kind engagement supports organizational priorities.
  • Build strong internal partnerships to identify opportunities for meaningful community engagement.
  • Support systems to steward, cultivate and engage volunteers and in-kind to deepen their relationship with Goddard Riverside.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven Development Office committed to exceptional donor and volunteer experiences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Educational Requirements
  • 3-5 years in volunteer or community engagement, non-profit program coordination or related work
  • At least 2 years' experience managing volunteers and volunteer programming
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to problem solve and effectively navigate challenging conversations
  • Experience managing large volumes of email, phone, and in-person communications
  • This position requires flexibility as key volunteer events and donation activities may occur on weekends and holidays, including Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and selected weekends throughout the year.

  • Familiar with or willing to learn donor databases, volunteer management software, and project management software (preferred: DonorPerfect, Corsizio, Monday.com)
Physical Requirements
  • Extensive computer and phone use
  • Regular off-site visits to program locations and events
  • Able to stand for more than one hour
  • Ability to lift and move supplies and in-kind donations
Work Environment

Office Volunteer projects may include kitchens, storage rooms, outdoor settings, and other non-office environment
