Job summary

Central Park Conservancy is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator in the Landscape Management department. You will serve as the primary liaison between staff and volunteers, directing daily volunteer activities across pre-determined projects, ensuring safety, quality, and timely completion.

Work closely with Park Operations staff across departments to meet project goals, train volunteers in proper techniques, and maintain documentation of hours and attendance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• Equivalency may substitute for the degree if demonstrated ability to collaborate.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Experience in volunteer management or customer service preferred.
• Knowledge of landscape maintenance incl. planting, pruning, weeding, removals.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize, coordinate multiple projects and problem-solve.
• Proficiency with computer equipment and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays; lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Identify suitable volunteer projects and sites with staff coordination.
• Schedule, plan and manage volunteer-led projects (adult, family, teens, school, corporate).
• Communicate with volunteers via email/phone regarding assignments.
• Supervise volunteers on site for landscape activities (weeding, pruning, mulching).
• Instruct and guide volunteers on landscape techniques and equipment use.
• Track volunteer hours, attendance and required reports for Volunteer Dept.
• Ensure work aligns with annual plan and safety standards.
• Maintain tools/equipment and ensure volunteers have uniforms.
• Operate equipment as needed (golf carts, light/medium trucks, tractors).
• Collaborate with sections and other staff; assist in events and engage park patrons.
