Job summary

Hospice of Northwest Ohio is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to supervise and support volunteers, aligning assignments with patient and family needs in a hospice setting.

You will recruit, orient, train, and retain volunteers, attending weekly team conferences and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compassionate care and program success.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of experience in a health care setting coordinating patient-related activities.
  • Familiar with Medicare Conditions of Participation as it relates to volunteer services.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Has the ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Understands and is committed to the hospice philosophy.
  • Provides supervision, support and coordination of assigned volunteers; cultivates and maintains relationships with volunteers to ensure volunteer retention.
  • Coordinates volunteer assignments according to patient/family/agency need and volunteer interests; attends weekly team conference to help proactively identify volunteer needs.
  • Assists with volunteer recruitment efforts; participates in the interview, selection and hiring process of new volunteers.
  • Conducts volunteer orientation classes and any follow-up training needed; ensures volunteers are successfully on-boarded to the volunteer program.
  • Participates in the planning and executing of volunteer retention and recognition activities throughout the year.
  • Conducts required performance evaluations and competency assessments; provides appropriate feedback.
  • Assists with (and may be given direct ownership of) various volunteer programs and complimentary services including but not limited to: Threshold Choir, Pillow Talk, Music, Memory Bears, etc.
  • Ensures batch posting and volunteer documentation is complete and recorded according to agency policies.
  • Assists with or conducts inpatient “hands on” training classes as assigned.
  • Assists with the annual recertification requirements as needed.
  • Collects and maintains accurate statistics on volunteer activities.
  • Assists with the development and/or facilitation of in-service programs for volunteers.
  • In the absence of a volunteer, may provide patient companionship or fulfill other patient/family referrals to ensure patient/family needs are met.
  • Responsible for learning and utilizing technology made available by the agency to increase efficiency, communication and performance of duties.
  • Participates in the agency’s Quality Improvement program.
  • Attends staff meetings and completes all mandatory training.
  • Holds in strictest confidence all patient information and discloses information and data only to persons authorized by Hospice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
