The Opportunity

The Volunteer Coordinator plays a major role in fostering relationships with volunteers, donors, and clients alike to provide volunteer opportunities within the community for outreach and service.

This position requires coordination of volunteers supporting Pantry shifts, Resale shifts, and Special Programs. Special Programs include but are not limited to: Homeless Point-In-Time Count, Homeless Outreach, Sack Summer Hunger, Thanksgiving, Holiday Program, Mobile Food Pantry, and/or special community events.

Requirements

Schedule Commitment

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and include occasional Saturdays and evenings. Specifically, New Volunteer Orientation will be conducted once a month on a Saturday. Flex time would apply to hours outside of normal scheduling.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years’ experience with non-profit organizations with emphasis on volunteer coordination and project management, or similar relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in project management, special events and/or volunteerism
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Assists the Volunteer Manager in the following:

  • Coordination of volunteer groups using Salesforce
  • Opening volunteer shifts
  • Creating new volunteer job descriptions as needed
  • Updating or entering volunteer data
  • Completing open volunteer shifts
  • Daily review and monitoring of shift calendar to recruit and fill gaps
  • Pull volunteer hours report for upcoming recognition milestones
  • Greet volunteers as they arrive at designated shift times
  • Engage and orient volunteers and handoff groups to staff member for assignment
  • Check-in with all agency departments with the goal being to “train and retain” volunteers
  • Respond to emails in Volunteer Manager shared inbox and answer calls/voicemails in a timely manner
  • Responsible for conducting New Volunteer Orientations per scheduled sessions
  • Support additional volunteer training opportunities (Resale Refresh, Ambassador Training)
  • Support a variety of intern programs through training and orientation

Special Requirements/Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • The work environment and physical demands described are representative of those required by the Volunteer Coordinator to perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • This role works onsite in a climate-controlled facility.
  • Physical Stamina and Strength: Ability to lift 25 lbs and stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Prolonged Computer Use: Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.

Reporting Relationship

The Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the Volunteer Manager

Oversight Responsibilities

The Volunteer Coordinator oversees the activities of Volunteers and Seasonal Interns

Pay Range

The Volunteer Coordinator is a FLSA non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $19.00 to $21.00 hourly, DOQ
