Job summary

Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA seeks a volleyball coach/instructor to provide high-level, age-appropriate instruction and to develop game plans. You will lead practices, greet players, and communicate with parents while promoting events and maintaining safety. A high school diploma and YMCA trainings are required, with college coaching experience encouraged.

Compensation includes hourly pay in a community-focused environment, with gym membership and program discounts for staff and family.

Job description

General Function

The coach/instructor is responsible for providing high level/age appropriate instruction to the participants of the program. The coach develops strategic plans, implements them, and supervises other staff needed to run the event.

Principle Activities

• Develop and implement high level/age appropriate instruction so athletes can reach their full potential
• Develop game plans and make strategic decisions during matches
• Meet with the Sports and Recreation Director/Volleyball Director to discuss plans and upcoming events
• Arrive early to set up and greet players as they arrive
• Communicate with parents as necessary
• Assist in teaching volleyball skills and strategies to players, providing both individual and team instruction
• Assist with promotion and marketing of events
• Supervise players, fostering a positive team environment
• Perform duties set by the Sports and Recreation Director
• Effectively communicate with players, parents, officials, and other coaches
• Ensure the safety of players during practices and games

Responsibilities

• Each coach must carry emergency forms for all players at all times
• Transporting players other than your own children in your personal vehicle may only be done if you meet the minimum insurance requirements per the YMCA personnel policy
• Coaches' pay is contingent upon attending all required practices and tournaments as noted in their coach contract
• All required YMCA trainings and clearances are considered part of coach duties and compensation
• The coach/instructor must have a high school diploma and experience working in the desired field. College coaching and/or playing experience is strongly encouraged but not required.
