Job summary

The Prospect Park YMCA is seeking a Volleyball Sports Instructor who will work with children and teens to promote the enjoyment of sports activities while improving physical competence, confidence, and skill development.

Responsibilities include teaching progressive lessons, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, and modeling YMCA core values. You will engage families, coordinate plans, and support program promotion. Benefits and training are provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching children/teens sports in a structured setting.
  • Knowledge of youth development stages.
  • Content expert in designated sports activity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
  • Current First Aid or CPR certifications.
  • Must attend YMCA Coaching 101 Training within 90 days.
  • Must obtain CDC HEADS UP concussion certificate within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives and goals for each session.
  • Create a written lesson plan for the program session that is age-appropriate and progressive.
  • Provide supervision of participants per YMCA standards including ratio and attendance.
  • Modify lesson plans to meet participant needs.
  • Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Teach rules and fundamentals and enhance basic skills.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about progress and next session registration.
  • Ensure equipment is age-appropriate, safe, and maintained; conduct monthly checks.
  • Lead program promotion and recruitment efforts.
  • Provide direction to volunteers or Sports Assistants when applicable.
  • Know branch emergency procedures and act accordingly in emergencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the program space during activities.
  • Inform MOD regarding incident reports.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and events.

Job Description

The Prospect Park YMCA is seeking a Volleyball Sports Instructor who will be responsible for working with children/teens to promote the enjoyment of sports activities while improving physical competence, developing confidence, and teaching basic skill development. Salary

$20.00 - $30.00 Hourly

Essential Functions
  • Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives and goals for each session.
  • Create a written lesson plan for the program session that is age-appropriate and progressive, as needed.
  • Provide supervision of the participants in line with YMCA program standards and guidelines (e.g., ratio, attendance, etc.).
  • Be able to modify lesson plans and instructions to meet the needs of the participants.
  • Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Teach rules and fundamentals and enhance basic skills.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding the progress of their child/teen and registration for the next session.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about additional YMCA opportunities that can benefit them or their child/teen.
  • Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe, and in proper working condition. This includes conducting monthly equipment safety checks.
  • Work with the Supervisor to develop and lead program promotion and recruitment efforts.
  • When applicable, provide direction to volunteers or Sports Assistants who support the program.
  • Have a thorough understanding of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate actions in emergencies.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the program space during all activities.
  • Inform the Manager on Duty (MOD) regarding any incident reports that need to be filled out.
  • Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions, and special events.
