CN Guidance & Counseling Services, Inc. seeks a qualified Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to support clients in recovery from substance use disorders. The role involves delivering 1:1 and group counseling, assessing job readiness, and guiding career planning.

Services may be provided in-office, virtually, at a client’s home, or in community settings. Strong collaboration with employers and workforce partners is essential to promote inclusive hiring.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience working with adults diagnosed with substance use disorders
• Valid NY driver's license with safe driving record required
• Experience delivering employment services and vocational counseling preferred

Responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 and group Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling to clients with substance use disorders
• Provide services virtually, in the office, in the client’s home, or in community locations based on client need
• Assist clients with job readiness assessments, skill-building, career planning, resume development, job search, and interview prep
• Provide job development and placement support and employment counseling with status tracking
• Educate employers and promote inclusive hiring practices for clients in recovery
• Maintain accurate client records in the agency’s Electronic Health Record and ensure program data is reported per OASAS standards

Job Definition

Promoting long-term recovery and self-sufficiency through community-based job placement assistance for clients in active treatment and recovery from substance use disorders. This position is grant funded by The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS).

Educational Requirements

• Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following:
• Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)
• Master's degree (MS or MEd) in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling
• ACCES-VR Counselor status
• CASAC, LMSW, LMHC, LCSW, and/or Master's in a related field

Experience Required

2 years of experience:

• Working with adults diagnosed with substance use disorders
• Providing employment services

Valid NY driver's license with safe driving record required.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Delivering 1:1 and group Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling to clients with substance use disorders
• Services may be delivered virtually, in the office, in the client’s home, or in a community location based on client need and preference
• These clients may also carry other diagnoses, including serious mental illness
• Helping clients identify and pursue their employment goals by:
• Conducting job readiness assessments
• Guiding clients through skill-building and career planning activities
• Providing pre-employment skill development, resume building, job search assistance and interview prep
• Providing job development and placement support, including:
• Employment counseling and status tracking
• Working in partnership with local businesses, workforce programs, supporters, and job development/technical assistance liaisons toward client goals
• Educating employers and promoting inclusive hiring practices for clients in recovery through:
• Focused conversations
• Follow-up presentations
• Small workshops
• Printed materials
• Online presence
• Keeping current on labor market trends and educating employers about opportunities
• Using social networking and internet research techniques for job placement, while ensuring consistent, structured communication between employment counselors, job developers, and placement providers
• Maintaining accurate client records and documentation for services provided in the agency’s Electronic Health Record
• Maintaining data as it relates to program performance, client outcomes, and statewide impact of this initiative, as per OASAS standards
• Facilitate sharing of data with the individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decision-making and to keep clients informed of progress
• Complete QI Training during onboarding and participate in QI refresher training as needed.
