Job summary

The Annenberg School of Nursing (ASN) is seeking a part-time Vocational Nursing Instructor in Commerce, CA. The role teaches theory and clinical skills, coordinates with clinical sites, and guides students through nursing fundamentals in accordance with state standards.

Responsibilities include classroom and lab instruction, supervising clinical experiences, evaluating progress, and communicating clearly with students. Requires active California RN or LVN license and prior teaching experience.

Qualifications

• Registered or Licensed Vocational Nurse - current active license in California.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills.
• Must be able to travel to various clinical sites.

Responsibilities

• Accept complete responsibility for students in the clinical facility.
• Teach a course load as assigned, including preparation for theory classes and clinical lab experiences.
• Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
• Clarify daily clinical expectations with students during pre-conference.
• Clarify student placement and expectations with clinical facility staff.
• Make patient/student assignments that meet clinical objectives and patient needs.
• Coordinate a daily plan with Clinical site to observe, instruct, and evaluate students.
• Direct post conference to ensure application of content to clinical experiences.
• Evaluate student progress and provide feedback weekly with clear objectives for improvement.

The Annenberg School of Nursing (ASN) is an intimate center of learning. We prepare vocational nursing (VN) students for the state licensing exam, the NCLEX-PN®, and nurse assistant (NA) students to earn certification through the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

The Vocational Nursing Instructor plans, teaches, directs, and supervises all student learning experiences in the classroom, skills lab, and clinical areas, following the curriculum of the school as approved by the California State Board of Nursing.

The responsibilities of the Temporary Vocational Nursing Instructor include, but are not limited to:

• Accept complete responsibility for students in the clinical facility
• Teach a course load as assigned, including preparation for and instruction of theory classes and clinical laboratory experience
• Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
• Clarify daily clinical expectations with students during pre-conference
• Clarify student placement and expectations with clinical facility staff
• Make patient/student assignments that meet both clinical objectives and patient needs
• Direct students in data collection and integration into their clinical paperwork; provide resources to students to ensure critical thinking through the nursing process
• Coordinate a daily plan with Clinical site to best observe, instruct, and evaluate students
• Direct post conference to ensure application of theoretical content to clinical experiences; provide opportunities for students to share learned experiences and verbalize feelings
• Evaluate student progress and give feedback weekly; provide clear objectives for improvement as needed
• Provide immediate feedback of clinical performance following observation of skills

Requirements:

• Registered or Licensed Vocational Nurse - current active license in the state of California
• Previous teaching experience, preferred but not required
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills
• Functional abilities to carry out classroom, clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities
• Competence in clinical skills in areas of teaching
• Competent in personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email
• Must be able to travel to various clinical sites

Education:

Registered Nurse:

• Hold a current, active California license as a Registered Nurse; and
• Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year of full-time teaching experience in a state-approved registered nursing, vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or meet community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and
• Have a minimum of two years of experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse within the last five years.

Licensed Vocational Nurse:

• Hold a current, active California license as a Vocational Nurse; and
• Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year of full-time teaching experience in a state-approved registered nursing, vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or meet community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and
• Have a minimum of two years of experience as a vocational nurse within the last five years.
