Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) in Meridian, MS, is hiring for a full-time vocational instructor to provide competency-based instruction to inmates in designated programs. You will develop objectives, deliver lessons, assess progress, and ensure safety and compliance with MDOC directives.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus three years of teaching or related experience in the vocation being taught; a valid Mississippi driver’s license is required unless waived by

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupation program areas taught to inmates.
• Develop performance objectives and tests in accordance with program content; incorporate written and skill assessments.
• Utilize audio/visual materials tailored to offender needs and assess student performance.
• Participate in staff conferences to improve education programs.
• Review and adapt instructional materials to help inmates reach mastery of competencies.
• Plan activities to initiate budget requests to ensure equipment and supplies are available.
• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning difficulties to bring positive changes.
• Promote positive social skills through modeling and intervention when inappropriate behavior is observed.
• Maintain accountability of inmates and property and adhere to safety practices.

Position Summary

Reports to Lead Instructor. Responsible for providing vocational instruction to inmates in accordance with approved curricula. Provide inmates with basic direction in compliance with management & Training Corporations (MTC) and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.

Essential Functions

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupation program areas taught to inmates
• Develop performance objectives and criterion-referenced tests in accordance with established program content, incorporate written and skill assessments.
• Utilize appropriate audio and visual teaching materials individualized to the specific need of the offender.
• Assess student performance.
• Participate in staff conferences in an endeavor to develop and improve education programs.
• Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help individuals reach mastery of the competencies required for entry, advancement, and upgrading occupations.
• Plan activities to efficiently initiate budget request to assure that all equipment, supplies, and materials are available to support a progressive training schedule.
• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in the behavior of offenders.
• Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures.
• Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
• Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education And Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the vocation being taught required. Valid driver’s license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
