Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in Elizabeth City is seeking a Vocational Evaluator (S) to join the VR/IL Unit Office. The role provides comprehensive vocational evaluation services to individuals with disabilities, assisting counselors with job planning and placement across several counties.

A Master’s degree in vocational evaluation or rehabilitation counseling is required, with alternatives outlined in the vacancy; travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in vocational evaluation, rehabilitation counseling, or closely related field.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with administering and interpreting vocational assessments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administering, scoring, and interpreting an extensive variety of vocational interests, achievements, and psychological tests
  • Analyzing consumers' medical, psychological, socio-economic, vocational and educational information
  • Developing a formal evaluation plan for each client
  • Conducting community-based assessments and making referrals for evaluation services to the consumer and the rehabilitation counselor(s)
  • Creating written reports outlining vocational aptitudes, interests, and abilities which are foundational to the vocational planning process
  • Gathering occupational resource information for better service deliverables
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary teams and committees for exchange of information and planning
  • Partnering with consumers and their family members, employers, school personnel, and other community agencies/contacts
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Description of Work

This Vocational Evaluator position is housed in the Elizabeth City VR/IL Unit Office and provides vocational evaluation services primarily to individuals with disabilities served by counselors in the Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, Perquimans area. The selected candidate provides comprehensive vocational evaluation assessments for persons with a range of disabilities, education levels, and work experience to assist with job planning and placement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred.

  • Knowledge of or experience in case management
  • Knowledge of or experience working with people with disabilities or underserved/marginalized populations
  • Knowledge of or experience working with a team of professionals to help a client meet a goal.
Salary Range

Salary Range: $39,244 -$68,679

Recruitment Range: $39,244 -$61,320

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s degree in vocational evaluation, rehabilitation counseling, or closely related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution; or Bachelor’s degree in vocational evaluation, rehabilitation counseling, or a closely related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
