Job Description

Vocal Music Director – Black Rock Middle School Musical

Black Rock Middle School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Vocal Music Director to teach and rehearse the vocal music for our spring musical.

The Vocal Music Director will be responsible for teaching the cast the musical score, including soloists, small groups, and large ensemble numbers, and helping students develop strong vocal technique, musicality, harmonies, and confidence as performers.

Responsibilities include:

• Teaching vocal parts, harmonies, and musical numbers to students in the cast
• Working individually with soloists to develop their vocal performances
• Leading rehearsals with a large middle school ensemble
• Helping students develop musical confidence, expression, and performance skills
• Collaborating with the show's director and production team to prepare the cast for performances

Schedule:
Rehearsals are held after school from 2:35–4:30 p.m., beginning in mid-November and continuing through early March. Music teaching days are flexible as we create our schedule.

Ideal candidate:

• Has experience teaching or directing vocal music
• Has experience working with middle school or adolescent students
• Is comfortable managing and motivating a large group of young performers
• Has strong knowledge of vocal music, harmony, and musical theater
• Is enthusiastic, patient, collaborative, and enjoys working with young performers

This position is focused specifically on vocal music and cast preparation and does not include responsibility for directing the orchestra.
