Job summary

Everforth Apex seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to drive VMware and OpenShift Virtualization (OSV) initiatives across global infrastructure. You will design, deploy, and support virtualization platforms, implement automation, and ensure security and reliability for large-scale deployments.

You will engage in capacity forecasting, build end-to-end observability, and partner with application teams to meet demand.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in two programming languages, or advanced one language development.
• 10+ years of IT experience.
• 8+ years of development experience.
• Strong understanding of VMware and Kubernetes concepts.
• Experience with Linux administration and networking fundamentals.
• Proficiency in scripting languages used for automation.
• Experience with monitoring and logging platforms.
• Understanding of virtualization technologies (KVM, VMware).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Engineer, deploy, administer, and protect global virtualization hosting solutions.
• Architect, design, install and support VMware and OSV platforms.
• Perform capacity planning across compute, VMs, memory, storage, and network.
• Develop automation scripts and playbooks for VM tasks and auditing.
• Implement SRE principles to improve platform stability and efficiency.
• Provide technical consulting for OSV solutions and tiered support.
• Create and maintain internal and customer-facing documentation.

Position Description

The Platform Engineering Senior Engineer will be responsible for engineering, deployment, operational administration, and protection of global enterprise virtualization hosting solutions. This role supports infrastructure systems, line-of-business applications, and third-party application requirements while ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and operational excellence.

• Engineer, deploy, administer, and protect global enterprise virtualization hosting solutions.
• Architect, design, install, administer, and support virtualization platforms including:
  • VMware
  • OpenShift Virtualization (OSV)
• Manage the complete global technology lifecycle, including:
  • Infrastructure security vulnerability patching
  • Planning
  • Design
  • Implementation
  • Maintenance
  • Hardware and software decommissioning
• Engineer, test, and document:
  • Procedures
  • Monitoring solutions
  • Logging solutions
  • Disaster recovery processes
  • Security policies and guidelines
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of hardware and software products.
• Research industry trends and best practices.
• Support large-scale global deployments of virtualization technologies.

Capacity Management

• Conduct capacity planning and forecasting across:
  • Compute resources
  • Virtual Machines (VMs)

  • Network resources
• Ensure scalability and prevent resource exhaustion.
• Analyze resource utilization trends and provide recommendations for:
  • Infrastructure scaling
  • Consolidation
  • Optimization
• Collaborate with application teams and stakeholders to understand future demand and project capacity requirements.
• Develop and maintain capacity models and reports to support strategic planning.

Automation & Operational Efficiency

• Develop automation solutions, including scripts and playbooks, for repetitive VMware and OSV tasks such as:
  • Configuration changes
  • VM management (including snapshot removal)
  • Auditing
  • Remediation
  • Ticketing system integrations
• Leverage automation to efficiently deliver operational updates and changes at scale.
• Implement Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and practices to improve:
  • Platform stability
  • Performance
  • Operational efficiency
• Deploy and audit Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC).
• Manage namespaces and resource quotas, including:
  • CPU
  • Disk
  • Storage

Observability, Monitoring, Logging & Troubleshooting

• Implement and maintain comprehensive end-to-end observability solutions across VMware and OSV environments.
• Integrate with tools including:
  • Dynatrace
  • RHACM
  • Prometheus
  • Grafana
• Explore and implement Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) capabilities to enhance real-time monitoring and response.
• Develop capabilities to:
  • Detect and report abnormalities
  • Identify observability blind spots
• Perform deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to rapidly identify and resolve issues throughout the global compute environment.
• Identify unhealthy systems and hidden issues across global infrastructure to accelerate resolution times.
• Proactively monitor:
  • VM health
  • Resource consumption
  • Performance metrics
• Monitor for unusual activity that could indicate:
  • Security compromises
  • Misconfigurations

Solution Design & Technical Consulting

• Provide technical consulting and platform expertise to application teams requiring VMware and OSV solutions.
• Design, implement, and validate:
  • Custom OSV clusters
  • Dedicated OSV clusters
  • Virtual machine solutions
• Support critical applications with complex or specialized requirements, including specialized appliances.

Knowledge Management

• Create, maintain, and update:
  • Internal technical documentation
  • Customer-facing documentation
• Enable self-service capabilities and clearly communicate platform capabilities.

Support Responsibilities

• Participate in Level 1 through Level 3 support for operational and environmental issues.
• Monthly after-hours and weekend support will be required.
