Job summary

Everforth Apex is seeking a Senior VMware Engineer in Plano, TX with a hybrid work arrangement for a 12-month contract. The role focuses on engineering the virtualization layer of the Internal Cloud HCI stack to provide standardized, production-grade hosting for various workloads.

You will work with VMware ESX/vSAN, Linux workloads, and lifecycle upgrades, while ensuring availability, performance, and resiliency and collaborating with automation and platform teams.

Qualifications

• 4–5 years of experience engineering or operating enterprise virtualization platforms in production.
• Hands-on experience with Linux workloads and virtualization troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting virtualization lifecycle activities such as upgrades, patching, stability/performance triage, and production change processes.

Senior VMware Engineer

Role Overview

This position is responsible for engineering the virtualization layer of the Internal Cloud Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) stack. The role enables standardized, production-grade hosting for various workload types, including virtual machines, grid compute, and container platforms. You will ensure the virtualization layer meets enterprise requirements for availability, performance, and resiliency while integrating with automated HCI stack components.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 4–5 years of experience engineering or operating enterprise virtualization platforms in production environments.
• Hands‑on experience with Linux workloads and infrastructure troubleshooting in virtualized environments.
• Experience supporting virtualization lifecycle activities such as upgrades, patching, stability/performance triage, and production change processes.

Technical Skills

• Familiarity with VMware virtualization concepts and hyperconverged infrastructure fundamentals (compute/virtualization/storage interaction).
• Primary Skill: VMWARE ESX

Preferred Qualifications

• 5–7+ years supporting virtualization platforms at an enterprise scale.
• Experience operating virtualization platforms that support multiple workload domains (VMs, container platforms, grid/batch).
• VMware certification (e.g., VCP) or equivalent training/experience.
• Experience working in regulated environments with formal operational readiness, change control, and release governance expectations.
