Job summary

SimSpace is seeking an Infrastructure / Data Center Operations Engineer in the Greater Boston area to maintain VMware-based infrastructure and data center operations. The role emphasizes high availability, disciplined change management, documentation, and rapid troubleshooting in a live environment.

You will actively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize critical systems, perform physical rack-and-stack tasks, and contribute to incident response while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience operating VMware-based infrastructure.
• Experience supporting infrastructure in a 99.999% uptime environment.
• Hands-on Layer 1 data center experience (rack-and-stack, cable management, server hardware).
• Strong technical documentation skills using Visio, IP management, rack layouts.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain VMware-based infrastructure.
• Perform Layer 1 data center work including rack-and-stack and hardware replacement.
• Respond to monitoring alerts and incidents, participate in root‑cause analysis.
• Use monitoring tools to assess system health and reliability.
• Create and maintain infrastructure documentation (Visio diagrams, IP records).
• Perform basic Linux deployment and administration tasks.
• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco/Dell switch environments.
