Job summary

SimSpace in the Greater Boston area is seeking an Infrastructure / Data Center Operations Engineer to ensure reliability and continuous improvement of VMware-based infrastructure and data center operations. The role spans VMware platforms, physical data center tasks, monitoring, documentation, Linux administration, and network work.

The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years in VMware environments, hands-on data center experience, strong documentation, and willingness to participate in an on-call

Qualifications

• 5+ years of VMware-based infrastructure experience.
• Experience delivering 99.999% uptime operations.
• Hands-on data center experience: rack-and-stack and hardware replacement.
• Strong documentation skills with Visio/IP management layouts.
• Proficient in infrastructure monitoring and incident response.
• Working knowledge of Linux deployment and remote access.
• Basic networking with Cisco or Dell switch configuration.
• Based in Greater Boston area and available for on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, operate, and maintain VMware-based infrastructure via vCenter.
• Perform Layer 1 data center work: rack-and-stack, cable management, hardware replacement.
• Respond to alerts, participate in root-cause analysis, and support recovery.
• Use monitoring tools to assess health and ensure service availability.
• Create and maintain infrastructure documentation with Visio diagrams.
• Perform basic Linux deployment and remote system access.
• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco/Dell switches for server connectivity.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours issues.
