Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Sr. Virtualization/VMware Engineer for a 12-month contract. The role is hybrid with 2 days in Jersey City, NJ.

Responsibilities include configuring and monitoring VMware environments at enterprise scale, DR planning with SRM, and automation using PowerShell, PowerCLI, and Terraform.

Candidates should have extensive VMware experience, including vCenter/ESXi, vLCM, NSX, vSAN, Tanzu, and related tools, with occasional after-hours support.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of VMware solutions.
• Expert level troubleshooting of ESXi, VMs, guest OS, networking and storage.
• Experience with containers.
• Disaster Recovery experience with SRM and DR programs.
• Automation scripting with PowerShell/PowerCLI and Terraform.

Description

Our client is looking for a Sr. Virtualization/VMWare Engineer to join their team on a 12 month contract. This role is hybrid 2 days a week in Jersey City, NJ.

Candidate must have experience with:

• Extensive hands‑on experience managing and engineering VMware environments, including vCenter, ESXi, lifecycle management, and day‑to‑day platform operations in large enterprise environments.
• Disaster Recovery & Site Recovery Manager (SRM) Proven experience supporting disaster recovery programs, workload mobility, and large-scale migration initiatives using VMware Site Recovery Manager and related DR technologies.
• Infrastructure Automation Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Terraform, or similar tools to automate deployments, configuration management, and repetitive operational tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Required Skills / Experiences:

Extensive knowledge of VMware solutions

o vSphere, vCenter Server, ESXi Hypervisor, vLCM/VUM, Site Recovery Manager, Aria Operations Manager, Aria Automation, NSX, Aria Operations for Logs, vSAN, Skyline, Tanzu, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), VMware HCX

o Design, development, deployment, and support of enterprise scale systems

o Expert level in troubleshooting and support of ESXi, virtual machines, Guest OS, network, and storage

o Experience with Containers

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Financial Services Infrastructure Experience Experience supporting large banking or financial services environments where uptime, change control, disaster recovery, and regulatory scrutiny are critical.

Large-Scale Data Center Migration Experience Hands-on experience planning and executing infrastructure migrations, workload mobility initiatives, hardware refreshes, or data center consolidations without impacting production systems.

VxBlock / VxRail / Cisco UCS Expertise is a PLUS Direct experience with converged and hyper-converged infrastructure platforms, particularly Dell EMC VxBlock, VxRail, and Cisco UCS environments, which closely mirror architecture.

Cross-Functional Infrastructure Depth Ability to speak the language of storage, networking, compute, and cloud teams, effectively acting as a virtualization SME who can troubleshoot and coordinate across the entire infrastructure stack rather than just VMware.

This is a Contract position based out of Jersey City, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
