Job summary

TEKsystems in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a Sr. Virtualization/VMWare Engineer for a 12-month contract. The role is hybrid (2 days onsite) and focuses on VMware vCenter/ESXi, DR/ SRM, and infrastructure automation.

You will design, implement, and operate large enterprise virtualization environments, with occasional after-hours support. Required skills include hands-on VMware expertise, SRM, and scripting with PowerShell/PowerCLI or Terraform to automate deployments and tasks.

Description

Our client is looking for a Sr. Virtualization/VMWare Engineer to join their team on a 12 month contract. This role is hybrid 2 days a week in Jersey City, NJ.

Candidate must have experience with:

• Extensive hands-on experience managing and engineering VMware environments, including vCenter, ESXi, lifecycle management, and day-to-day platform operations in large enterprise environments.

• Disaster Recovery & Site Recovery Manager (SRM) Proven experience supporting disaster recovery programs, workload mobility, and large-scale migration initiatives using VMware Site Recovery Manager and related DR technologies.

• Infrastructure Automation Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Terraform, or similar tools to automate deployments, configuration management, and repetitive operational tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Configure, administer, and monitor enterprise-wide virtual infrastructure, cloud & on-prem

Design and implement virtualization infrastructure including hardware and supporting services, cloud & on-prem

Required Skills / Experiences:

Extensive knowledge of VMware solutions

• o vSphere, vCenter Server, ESXi Hypervisor, vLCM/VUM, Site Recovery Manager, Aria Operations Manager, Aria Automation, NSX, Aria Operations for Logs, vSAN, Skyline, Tanzu, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), VMware HCX
• o Design, development, deployment, and support of enterprise scale systems
• o Expert level in troubleshooting and support of ESXi, virtual machines, Guest OS, network, and storage
• o Experience with Containers

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Financial Services Infrastructure Experience Experience supporting large banking or financial services environments where uptime, change control, disaster recovery, and regulatory scrutiny are critical.

Large-Scale Data Center Migration Experience Hands-on experience planning and executing infrastructure migrations, workload mobility initiatives, hardware refreshes, or data center consolidations without impacting production systems.

VxBlock / VxRail / Cisco UCS Expertise is a PLUS Direct experience with converged and hyper-converged infrastructure platforms, particularly Dell EMC VxBlock, VxRail, and Cisco UCS environments, which closely mirror architecture.

Cross-Functional Infrastructure Depth Ability to speak the language of storage, networking, compute, and cloud teams, effectively acting as a virtualization SME who can troubleshoot and coordinate across the entire infrastructure stack rather than just VMware.

This is a Contract position based out of Jersey City, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
