Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind invites applications for a Student Educational Services Aide in Springville, UT. You will support blind/visually impaired students with educational activities, braille instruction, and assistive technology under the supervision of a TVI.

The role requires empathy, patience, and the ability to work with diverse learners across multiple schools during the year. The position is full-time, in-office, with criminal background check and integrity requirements.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn and receive training on the job.
• Experience as an educational aide, paraprofessional, or other related teaching experience.
• Learn both contracted and uncontracted Braille. Not required initially.
• Learn technology for the blind such as Jaws, Braillenote, and VI equipment.
• Ability to follow teachers’ directions and lesson plans, transcribe materials.
• Work independently.
• Maintain sensitivity, tact and professionalism.
• Clear and effective communication.
• Maintain strict confidentiality.
• Be dependable with good organizational and time-management skills.
• Within one year of hire, pass a braille literacy test with 85%+ score.

Responsibilities

• Provide field support to blind and visually impaired students with additional needs.
• Provide direct supportive instruction without daily supervision.
• Provide one-on-one educational support and assistance to students.
• Assist classroom teachers as appropriate.
• Provide braille instruction, contracted and uncontracted.
• Prepare braille and tactile graphic materials for all levels.
• Assist in determining student needs and use of low vision aids.
• Meet with teachers, administrators, and parents per TVI guidance.
• Travel between schools with students.
• Assist students in accessing content using technology.
