Job summary

Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking two part-time Preschool Paraprofessionals to support blind/low-vision preschool students in Springville, UT. Work under the Instructor for the Blind/Low Vision and assist with daily activities and instructional materials.

Responsibilities include tutoring, progress reporting, behavior support, and maintaining records. Positions are 181 days per year with a 30-hour weekly schedule. Background checks are required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  • Ability to deal with strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students and/or lift over 50 pounds.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our school. We are looking for two caring and motivated Paraprofessionals to work with our blind/low-vision preschool students under the supervision of an Instructor for the Blind/Low Vision at USDB. These positions are located in Springville.

Roles & Responsibilities: As a Paraprofessional you will:

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position will possess:

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  • Ability to deal with strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students and/or lift over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to deal with risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations.
    Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization.
  • Techniques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom teachers.
Supplemental Information
  • There are risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g., being subject to possibly physical attacks. Risks are related to the possibility of working with students who are non-compliant, self-abusive, and/or aggressive.
  • This position has strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students with limited mobility and/or their personal needs equipment. Must be able to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is contingent upon employment.
  • These are part time positions for nine months, 181 days each school year. Work schedule, Monday through Friday, 30 hours per week.
