Job summary

The Seattle Times offers a paid summer internship program for outstanding students aiming to build a career in journalism. For 10 weeks, interns work with Pulitzer Prize-winning staff on real-world assignments as employees of our metropolitan newspaper and website.

Pay is $21.30 per hour, with benefits and industry exposure in the Northwest’s leading daily news media organization. Responsibilities include creating maps, charts and illustrations across news, features, business and sports,

Qualifications

• Strong data visualization, drawing, mapping and design skills.
• Majors in journalism or commitment to print/online journalism; social media skills; digitally astute.
• Internship experience at other news organizations preferred.
• Experience with Illustrator/Photoshop required.

Responsibilities

• Create maps, charts and illustrations for a wide range of assignments from news to features, business and sports.
• Generate visual story ideas.
• Engage in regular conversations with your supervisor, editors and graphic artists to learn from feedback.
• Meet assignment deadlines set by the graphics team.
