Job summary

TEGNA Inc. in Sacramento, CA is seeking a committed Visual Storyteller/Photojournalist to shoot, edit, and publish compelling stories for broadcast and digital platforms.

You will develop sources, craft concepts, and use modern equipment and editing tools to tell impactful visual stories. The role requires flexibility for weekends and varied shifts, along with strong journalism principles and photojournalism experience.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience preferred.
• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.
• Demonstrated social media proficiency (Facebook, Instagram, X).
• Knowledge of ENPS, EDIUS, non-linear editing programs, and Axis graphics.
• Must have a valid driver’s license; able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Shoots and edits breaking news, general assignments, sports and feature stories for ABC10’s broadcast and digital platforms.
• Work solo or in a team to gather and publish content across platforms.
• Edit broadcasts using non-linear applications (EDIUS preferred).
• Be open to weekends and varying shifts based on coverage needs.
• Multi-task assignments while maintaining quality control.
• Use graphics and new media formats to enhance stories.
• Operate live shots with TVU, Dejero, microwave or satellite truck.
• Attend editorial meetings and propose story ideas.
• Take still photographs.

ABC10, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate station in Sacramento, CA, is looking for a full-time Visual Storyteller/Photojournalist. This candidate must thrive working in a fast-paced environment, develop sources and story concepts, shoot, and edit stories on your own or with a member of the ABC10 team. Our ideal candidate is familiar with the latest video equipment to tell visual stories, editing tools, and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Shoots and edits breaking news, general assignments, sports and feature stories for ABC10’s broadcast and digital platforms
• Be assigned to either work in a team or solo for daily news assignments, working collaboratively with the team to ensure the best content is gathered and published on all platforms
• Edit broadcasts using non-linear applications (Edius preferred)
• Must be open to working weekends and varying shifts, depending on daily station coverage needs
• Ability to multi-task assignments while constantly monitoring quality control
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
• Operate live shots with TVU, Dejero, microwave or satellite truck
• Knowledgeable in advanced lighting skills for broadcast
• Contact sources and develop news stories
• Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions and suggest story ideas
• Take still photographs
• Safety consciousness and situational awareness on live shot locations and events

Requirements

• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field
• 1-3 years of experience preferred
• Clear understanding of the principles of journalism
• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
• Demonstrated social media proficiency, including an active news gathering on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter)
• Demonstrated news judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills.
• Must be flexible with schedule, reliable and dependable
• Knowledge of ENPS, EDIUS, non-linear editing programs, and Axis graphics
• Must have a valid driver's license, able to lift up to 40 lbs. and occasionally up to 80 lbs. with or without accommodation

Pay Range

$26.45 - $31.25 USD

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.

Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.

TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
