Job summary

Cambridge Public Schools is seeking an Extended Term Substitute Visual Arts Teacher for Darby Vassal Upper School and the SCALE program at CRLS. The role combines 6–8 art instruction with specialized adaptive art education for students on the autism spectrum, 0.8 and 0.2 time split.

Position requires MA Elementary Art licensure, a Bachelor’s degree, and urban/multicultural teaching experience. Immediate start with benefits typical of CPS substitutes.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience leading visual arts instruction in an urban, multicultural setting in 6-8.
  • Culturally responsive educator with a strong sense of social justice and equity.
  • Experience with diverse learners, including students with special needs and autism in high school.
  • Ability to align curriculum with department standards and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Teach visual arts classes to grades 6-8 at Darby Vassal.
  • Teach visual arts classes in the SCALE program at the high school CRLS.
  • Implement a rigorous and standards-based art curriculum across 2D/3D media.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners’ needs.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop interdisciplinary curricula.
  • Organize and participate in exhibitions of student work on and off campus.
  • Steward supplies, equipment, and teaching resources wisely.
  • Work with another full-time upper school visual arts teacher to align curricula.
