Job summary

The Visual Arts Instructor at West Ridge Community Center in Highland Park, IL, will create and develop new curricula and teach art programs to students from age two to adults. The ideal candidate has 3–6 years of teaching experience in art mediums such as sculpture, painting, drawing, or ceramics.

Responsibilities include developing lesson plans, demonstrating techniques, maintaining a safe classroom, and communicating professionally with customers.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or related experience.
  • 3–6 years of teaching experience in one or more art mediums (sculpting, painting, drawing, ceramics).
  • CPR/AED certification and valid driver’s license.

  • Develop and implement lesson plans within program guidelines.
  • Explain and demonstrate techniques and methods of the art specialty.
  • Assist students in developing skills and maintain a safe, clean classroom environment.
  • Provide positive and professional communication with customers.
  • Maintain attendance records and follow Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Follow PDHP behavior management policies and district guidelines.
  • Supervise Teacher’s Aide and North Suburban Special Recreation Aide as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Visual Arts Instructor creates and develops new and unique curricula and instructs students ranging from age two to adult in specialty art programs. The ideal candidate is passionate about community-based art programs and will have 3–6 years of teaching experience in one or more art mediums (i.e., sculpting, painting, drawing, ceramics).

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises students enrolled in assigned classes.

Essential Job Duties
  • Develop and implement lesson plans within program guidelines.
  • Explain and demonstrate techniques and methods of the specialty area.
  • Assist students in the development of their skills pertaining to their specialty area of practice. Maintain a safe, clean classroom environment.
  • Provide positive and professional communication with customers.
  • Maintain emergency forms and dispense District-approved required medication if necessary.
  • Take attendance and maintain sign in sheets.
  • Follow emergency procedures as outlined in the facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Follow and implement PDHP behavior management policies.
  • Implement and document behavior management plans within Park District guidelines.
  • Provide direction to Teacher’s Aide and/or North Suburban Special Recreation Aide.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:

Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ideal candidates will have3–6 years of teaching experience in one or more art mediums (i.e., sculpting, painting, drawing, ceramics).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED certification
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Other relevant training courses
Wage Range:

Wage Range:$25.51-$45.00 per hour; candidates with 3-6 years of experience may be offered up to $30.00/hour; candidates with 6+ years may be offered up to $45/hour.

Classification:

Part-time, non-exempt

Work usually takes place in clean, pleasant and comfortable indoor conditions. However, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions with some slightly disagreeable conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
